Airbnb will integrate four new security solutions into its platform for additional protection.

In a statement from the platform’s founder to employees globally, the updated solutions are: 100% Verified; Guest Guarantee; Airbnb Neighbor Hotline; High Risk human review.

All seven million listings on Airbnb will undergo verification for detail accuracy and quality standards. This includes analysis of the accuracy of photos, addresses, listing details, cleanliness, safety and basic home amenities.

Airbnb will clearly label all hosts that meet the new expectations by December 15, 2020. Every host will be reviewed with the objective of 100% verification.

Starting December 15, if a listing fails to meet accuracy standards, Airbnb will rebook guests to another host of equal or greater value, or give a 100% refund.

Airbnb will also be launching a 24/7 Neighbour Hotline for direct contact to a rapid response team. The hotline launch is December 31 in the United States, and globally over the course of 2020

Changes to Egypt visa applications

Egypt’s visa application system and regulations for South African passport holders have been amended, effective November 4.

The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, based in Pretoria, posted a notice with new rules and regulations for the visa application process:
Individual applicants and groups of not more than five people can submit their applications on Mondays and Tuesdays from 09h00 until 11h00 only.
Travel agencies, courier companies and groups of more than five people can submit applications on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 09h00 until 11h00 only.
The Embassy will not be receiving applications on Fridays.
Upon submission, each applicant will receive a receipt ‘slip’ that clearly illustrates collection number and collection date.
The original submission receipt must be submitted to the Embassy upon collection. Passports will only be handed to the person who submits the original submission receipt.
Due to the high frequency of applications and the rigorous process of visa issuing, the Embassy will not be able to deliver passports on earlier dates than the dates mentioned in the submission receipt (minimum of five working days).
The Embassy will not be able to receive any applications unless all required documents and requirements have been completed (please check our photo gallery section on Facebook).

South African Airways has taken delivery of a new Airbus A350-900.

It is the first of four aircraft expected to operate on SAA’s ultra-long-haul route between Johannesburg and New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport.

As the additional A350-900s are delivered, they will be deployed on more routes.

The business and economy-class cabins offer a quieter flight, with a total of 339 seats – 30 in business class seats and 309 in economy.

The first six rows in economy class offer extra leg-room and business class seats recline to lie-flat beds.

SAA will receive three more Airbus A350-900s over the next six weeks and all four aircraft are expected to be fully operational by mid-December. SAA will operate the aircraft for three years.

The first two aircraft are nine months old. The second and third aircraft are scheduled for arrival during the first week of November and the fourth will arrive in early December.

The last two aircraft are brand new and will be delivered to SAA directly from the Airbus factory in Toulouse. They are sub-leased from Air Mauritius and will also fly with SAA for three years.

SAA is critical but can be fixed – Mboweni

SAA cannot afford its own operations according to South Africa’s Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni.

In his medium-term budget address to Parliament on October 31, Mboweni said: “SAA is unlikely to ever generate enough cash flow to sustain operations in its current configuration.

“Which then begs the question, how long are we going to be on this current flight path.”

The Minister called for a new approach to dealing with the country’s ailing SOEs. According to Mboweni, the main reason behind increasing government debt is simple. “We spend more than we earn. We must wean state companies off the national budget. They must learn to stand on their own feet.”

He went on to say that SAA could fix things with urgent operational and governance intervention.

Mboweni sees government funding in SAA as an unfortunate decision to “subsidise the middle class and wealthy to fly around the country and other parts of the world” while forgetting the masses of South Africans who still travel on other forms of transport.

The Minister concluded by saying he was optimistic that conversations between SAA and potential equity partners would liberate the fiscus.
