Sun City is located approximately 100km away and nearby attractions in Hartebeespoort such as Aerial Cableway, Hartebeespoort Dam, Elephant Sanctuary, Magalies Canopy Tours, Monkey Sanctuary, Hot Air Balloon Rides are a short 29 kilometers out. Guests can delight in the view of the relaxing setting and enjoy the peace and quiet. The abundance of birds and wildlife is an experience not to be missed. At Mgankla we have a variety of animals such as Mgankla (Zulu name for Kudu), Nyala, Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Eland, Waterbuck, Duiker, our small family of Giraffe and much, much more. Another one of our patients for the day.
The little girl lives with her family on a residential golf estate and got smacked on the pip with a golf ball. She doesn't know who, what or where she is at the moment, but with the good meds Dr Georgie at Bryanston Avian, Exotic and Small Animal Clinic gave her a few hours ago, we think she'll start remembering that she's a monkey by tomorrow😉

The ability to distinguish between species’ tracks—like those of dogs and leopards—is critical in conservation.

Tracking allows us to monitor wildlife populations, understand their behavior, and recognize changes in their movement patterns. For example, tracking helps detect the presence of predators like leopards in an area, which can signal a healthy ecosystem and help us better protect them. After all, to protect something, one needs to know it is there to begin with. It also helps identify potential human-wildlife conflicts, such as cases where domestic dogs may be encroaching on wildlife territories, bringing risks of disease transmission or threat to protected wildlife.

Furthermore, tracking provides invaluable data that aids conservationists in making informed decisions. Knowing where certain species are active can guide habitat restoration, help prevent poaching, and protect endangered animals. It’s not just about following footprints—it’s a powerful tool for understanding and protecting biodiversity.

Our weekly baboon rescue. This big boy made his way into the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg today almost undetected. We're convinced he caught an Uber into town, because usually these dispersing male baboons attract huge fanfare, especially one this size.
It took us precisely 11 minutes to catch him, which isn't a record, but it's pretty close.
We shall release him in an area he wants to be later today😉
