Van Der Westhuizen Hostel Holiday Resort

Van Der Westhuizen Hostel Holiday Resort A holiday home away from home for schools, churches and the underprivileged. Dedicate to making a difference

The Van Der Westhuyzen Hostel is an organization established over 80 years ago to provide holiday accommodation to the under privileged. It was generously donated to “black and coloured” communities by an “Afrikaaner” couple in the early 1930’s when apartheid was ever present and racial inequality was at its worst. The organization has moved several times due to the group areas act and is now base

d in Strandfontein. The facility has 12 chalets and a hall used mainly by under privileged schools and churches. The organization runs on a non-profitable basis and basically supports its self without any government grants or commercial sponsorship

The Van Der Westhuyzen Hostel is an organization established over 80 years ago to provide holiday accommodation to the under privileged. It was generously donated to “black and coloured” communities by an “Afrikaaner” couple in the 1920’s when apartheid was ever present and racial inequality was at its worst. The devoted Christian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Van Der Westhuizen, donated their house in Main Street Stand to those people that never had the privilege, at the time, to go to the beach or have any type of decent holiday away from home because of the colour of their skin.
