“The partnership between Angama and dmAFRICA was founded 10 years ago just before we opened our lodge in the Mara. From that day until now Alan, Dan, Adam and their team have unfailingly supported us. They have an uncanny knack of sending us perfectly matched guests who have been a delight to look after. This is a sought after skill in our industry.”

Kind words from Nicky Fitzgerald, owner at .

Photos above from our visit to their newly opened addition, Angama Amboseli. Hard to believe it was over a year ago.

Looking forward to another 10 and years and beyond of working with this incredible brand.

Checking in with as they give us a rundown of what the different seasons offer in one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.

If you have Kenya on your mind, here’s what they have to say about what to expect at different times of the year:

- January to March sees the skies begin to clear, with remarkable views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, and high temperatures throughout the day and night. Often referred to as the ‘secret quiet time’ in the Mara, safari drive conditions are ideal and ensure plentiful sightings of predator and prey interactions as well as the opportunity to spot baby animals.

- The long rains and pleasant temperatures arrive from April to June, providing beautiful emerald scenery and atmospheric skies that are ideal for landscape photography. Known as ‘the time of plenty’ in Kenya, guests can witness the Loita resident migration and peak elephant breeding season, as well as the stunning breeding displays of widowbirds.

- Those wishing to see the famed wildebeest migration should choose to travel from July to September, with river crossings peaking in August and early September. Cooler temperatures and low grass make for exceptional viewing with enhanced visibility, and the hides at Ol Donyo Lodge become a hive of activity as the best time to see the area’s famed big tusker elephants.

- Flower lovers and bird watchers will be spoilt with viewing opportunities during October to December, as temperatures begin to elevate and the short rains begin. This time also marks the beginning of the antelope breeding season, with many babies and predator/prey interactions to be seen. By December, guests can expect occasional stunning lightning displays and thunderstorms, providing incredible scenery photography. October is arguably the best time to see Ol Donyo Lodge’s big tuskers before the onset of the short rains.

With a boathouse chock full of every toy you could possibly want in the ocean, is a water lover’s dream.

Staffed by a knowledgeable and incredibly attentive team, there are more than enough activities on offer to keep one busy for days. Waterskis, SUPs, snorkelling gear to explore the surrounding Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve, jet surfboard, a handy skiff on standby should you wish to go hunt for whale sharks (highly recommended), kayaks, sailboats and so on. The list is endless. Along with this deep sea fishing charters can be arranged as well as sailing trips on a traditional Arab sailing dhow.

If you like staying active in and on the water you’re going to need some time.

As we approach the end of 2024 we’re reminiscing about some of the experiences we’ve had in the past couple of years.

Floating gently over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon at sunrise has to be right up there in the top 10. This was just one part of a beautiful Tanzanian trip with our fam and something we need to do again as soon as possible.

has been “closed” for a while now as they upgrade, update and get ready for a new era. They’re reopening their doors in 2025 and we’re chewing fingernails as we wait to see the new offering.

As one of the most revered hideaways in the Seychelles, Fregate Island will remain an ultra-exclusive sanctuary offering the same privacy and seclusion our guests have loved over the years.

The new property will be similar in both size and area footprint. However, the significantly larger 17 villas are going to blend into nature and will be redesigned to be made out of glass, stone and lightwood. In addition, state of the art technology will minimize energy consumption through partial use of solar energy. A new road system and upgraded building infrastructure will ensure our island operates even more sustainably.

While the imaginary doors to Fregate Island have been closed for almost 3 years their conservation team have been remained on site, continuing their work protecting and restoring nature during the building time.

The restoration and perception of its unique flora and fauna has always been and will continue to be a fundamental raison d’être for years head of Fregate Island. A splinter of the former supercontinent Gondwana, this unique and special island acts as an ecological sanctuary for dozens of species and will do so for many years to come. Fregate Island is home to a unique assortment of precious and fascinating flora and fauna, like the critically endangered Magpie Robin, the Fregate Beetle and the famed Giant Aldabra Tortoises. The Conservation & Sustainability department will continue to oversee all aspects of the island’s environment from habitat management, landscaping, biosecurity, pesticide use and scientific research as well as studies and projects in cooperation with different NGO’s.

While they wrap up work over the coming months you can follow parts of their conservation journey over at their Instagram account as they offer us teasers of what’s to come in 2025.

get us up to speed on the changing seasons and moods of Botswana. The north east of the country is home to the world’s largest freshwater inland delta and the remarkably beautiful Selinda Spillway. A unique and ever-changing landscape, it offers a range of conditions and wildlife activity throughout the year that will make every visit special.

have this to say about the four distinct seasons:

January to March sees warm temperatures and afternoon rain showers, with early morning mists making for excellent photography opportunities. Wildlife sightings during this period include herbivore grazers such as warthog, lechwe and kudu, as well as elephants, buffalo and varied predators. This is one of the best times of year for bird-lovers, with enigmatic species including carmine bee-eaters regularly sighted. At some camps activities are suspended due to lower water levels.

From April to June, herbivores begin to return to the floodplains and main channels of the Okavango in anticipation of the floods, which begin in mid-late April. Flower lovers will delight as waterlilies begin to bloom in the Okavango, while the clear night sky acts as the perfect canvas for the famed Scorpio constellation. Wildlife opportunities abound, with hippos beginning to emerge during the day along with increased leopard and wild dog sightings.

Temperatures are at their coolest and the flood is at its zenith in the Okavango during July to September, when water-based activities are at their prime and the Selinda Spillway begins to fill in peak flood years. Large herds of elephants begin to gather around the camps, with exceptional safari viewing during this period, which is also denning season for wild dogs and daily hunts occur close to denning sites.

October to December sees the floods in the Okavango recede, while the rainy season begins and daytime temperatures soar. Grasses begin to sprout on the floodplains, leading to high wildlife concentrations, with baby season promising the most adorable of animal sightings. This period is also excellent for bird and butterfly watchers, while water activities continue at most camps.

The magic of is in connection. Connection to the people and community, the surrounding land and the wildlife of this special part of Kenya.

Perched on the cliffs of the Laikipia Plateau and overlooking a panoramic skyline of untouched valley, Ol Malo is Northern Kenya’s original luxury bush home. The rooms are safari-inspired and made with wood and natural materials from the land, and the structures fit organically and seamlessly into the mountainside.

We visited last year with our friends at and had an incredible time experiencing what they have to offer. The option of an exclusive buyout of the six bedroom Ol Malo House also makes this an enticing destination for those seeking privacy.

Today’s the day for our friends and fam in the US. The award-winning documentary is available for streaming on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. A UK release date is set for early 2025.

A captivating film about a remarkable group of women, Ranger is a story about rite of passage. Set within Kenya’s Maasai homeland, an intimate and contemporary story of self-discovery unfolds as 12 women become East Africa’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. Upending the male-dominated, reliance upon military-style training to make a wildlife ranger, Virginia, Liz, Momina and Damaris instead undergo a year-long program of deep trauma release and healing, triggering profound transformation within themselves and sending shockwaves through their communities.

We were lucky enough to spend a morning on a bush walk and tracking demonstration with this unique unit at last year while visiting with our Topi Pride, and we all left with stars in our eyes.

If you’re in the US head over to Apple or Amazon and grab yourself a copy. It’s a must-watch.

Featured in this month’s , a hauntingly beautiful journey to the vast emptiness of the Ennedi Massif region in Chad. A trip our very own was a part of.

Aminatta Forna writes:

“The desert had brought me to an awareness of a beauty both subtle and sublime, an integration of shades of colour, line and shape. I was aware of its impact upon my sense of self; my feeling of vulnerability and smallness, but also of harmony with a world that existed beyond my knowledge and experience, in both space and time. In our world we talk often and glibly of freedom. But we have only the faintest idea of what freedom can mean. This was freedom.”

Pop over to the website to read the full account of what they experienced in this unique location.

Our friends at recently posted about six hauntingly beautiful places to visit (it was Halloween after all) and right at the front of the group was Kwessi Dunes.

Situated in the Namibrand Nature Reserve in Southern Namibia, this breathtaking location with certainly leave you with a case of the thousand yard stares. The Namibrand is a private nature reserve established to help protect and conserve the unique ecology and wildlife of the South-West Namib Desert. Tourism in the Reserve is very carefully managed and the rules prescribe that the total number of guest-beds in the Reserve is restricted to one bed per 1000 hectare and a limit of 25 guest-beds in any one location. Presently there are five concessionaires conducting tourism operations in the Reserve. These tourism operators collect a daily park fee from guests on behalf of the Reserve.

All of these concessionaires make every effort to co-operate with one another so as not to interfere with each other’s activities, such as drives, hikes, utilisation of tracks and care of the environment.

’s Kwessi Dunes Lodge is one of these lucky concessionaires and when we visited we were left truly touched by the experience and the landscape it inhabits.

Bucket list stuff.

We recently posted about Cape Town restaurants receiving international accolades by the fistful and now once again they’re making waves.

This time the readers of have spoken and Cape Town has been voted best city for food in the world in their recent Reader’s Choice Awards. A lovely feather in the cap for this beautiful city.

Condé Nast has this to say:

“Despite its name, South Africa’s capital is no town; rather, it is a sprawling city consisting of distinct corners and crevices where various tastes rule what’s devoured. African, Dutch, Malay, and Indian cuisines influence South African cuisine, so it’s a veritable melting pot of exceptional food. Amble along the waterfront and nurse a crisp glass of wine while steaks and fresh seafood sizzle in the kitchen, or get in on the viniculture at Babylonstoren, the celebrated vineyard in the Cape Winelands.”

Living the private island dream on last month. Featuring a cast of our fam and friends.

Leaving day was difficult on this one. Thanda is as idyllic as tropical islands get. Between the villa, the pool, the traditional Tanzanian bandas, the various exquisite outdoor dining options (chandelier on the beach, anyone?), the boathouse with all the aquatic toys, the tennis court (Ginbledon!), the beautiful chopper ride in and the sparkling ocean out front there is very little reason to vacate.

Island dreaming at its finest.
