Tomorrow will mark an extraordinary moment in our history, as we unveil our newest memorial to the missing in Cape Town’s Company’s Garden.

This new memorial will commemorate by name over 1700 South Africans who served for the military labour corps and died during the First World War. These men were previously unrecognised, with no known grave or commemoration.

Completing this new memorial is the culmination of years of work, starting with the research that led to the identification of these casualties, through to the collaborative design and creation of our new memorial in Cape Town.

Register to be part of revitalising Good Hope Centre’s future

The City of Cape Town has launched a pre-registration process ahead of the public participation to kick off the journey to revitalise the iconic Good Hope Centre property. The City is aiming to unlock significant economic potential by releasing the site for proposed redevelopment while promoting the heritage of this Mother City landmark.
'The City is deeply committed to ensuring that this proposed redevelopment reflects the needs and aspirations of our residents. This process will be inclusive, and we look forward to collaborating with the private sector to shape a space that we can all be proud of. Together, we'll bring new energy and purpose to this landmark site,' said Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.
