It's important to remember when you encounter wildlife that you are the visitor to their home.
This guy was keeping an eye on his troop above on the cliffs. We waited patiently for him to move off before continuing down the path. Attempting to pass may have been seen as provocation. So we waited 😊

This fine lady is 200 years old 🎉 officially opening in April 1824.
Green Point Lighthouse is often mistakenly referred to as the Mouille Point Lighthouse, but that name belongs to a different structure which was built near Granger Bay a few years later.
The square tower, which was originally painted white, was repainted in 1950 with a daymark consisting of two horizontal black bands separated by a broad yellow band, to make it more easily distinguishable from other buildings on the foreshore. This color scheme still proved to be ineffective, and so it was changed to its present daymark, white with red diagonal stripes, in 1956.

In the event of a shark bite, every second counts and stopping blood loss is the main priority.
Non profit organisation, National Sea Rescue Institute ( ) have installed shark bite kits at popular surfing sites where sharks are prevalent. They contain pressure bandages, gauze and tourniquets as well as an info sheet on how to use the contents.
We found this one while on a Garden Route tour last week. Famous amongst surfers as a surf capital due to the right-hand point break at Supertubes Beach 🤙🏼

Whether they are called beach huts or bath houses, there is never any doubt when mentioned along side Muizenberg, that people are referring to the stretch of colorful huts in. Cape Town.
Victorian ideas of morality governed sea bathing etiquette in the early 1900's. The beach huts we know today were originally constructed in response to those governing principals, which included modesty.
⏩ Fast forward to today and the bright, vibrant and very photogenic Muizenberg beach huts continue to be an Instagramers delight and, a perfect location and backdrop for local and international film and commercial shoots.

Human rights are rights everyone should have simply because they are human. Established in 1948 by the UN, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice and peace.
South Africa has included indivisible human rights in our constitution adopted in 1996.
Human Rights day is historically linked with 21 March 1960, and the events of Sharpville and is a day when South Africans reflect on their rights, protect their rights and the rights of all people; irrespective of gender, race, religioun, whether they are foreign national or not - human rights apply to everyone, equally.

After many years of complaints from sailors that the lighthouse on top of Cape Point Peak was often obscured by clouds or fog, the authorities eventually decided that a new lighthouse, located at a much lower altitude should be erected.
105 years ago, on March 11 1919, the lamp of the new lighthouse was lit. At 79 meters (259 feet) the new lighthouse was electrified on September 1, 1936 and following various upgrades, is now the most powerful lighthouse in South Africa, and one of the most powerful in the world.

DYK that African Experience serves the domestic golfers market too? We were asked to arrange a mid-week golf getaway for local players, privately hosted and this is what we came up with:
2 nights accommodation (including 2 evening meals catered) at the Tierhoek House & Cottage on the Tierhoek Organic Farm, Noree Valley in Robertson.
Round 1 - Designed by Gary Player, Worcester Golf Course situated in the foothills of the Brandwacht Mountains with a panoramic view of Worcester and the Breede River Valley.
Round 2 - The 18-hole Robertson Golf Course on the Silwerstrand Golf and River Estate, surrounded by the rolling Langeberg mountains in the Breede River Valley Winelands and bordered by vineyards and orchards.
Round 3 - Paarl Golf Club is rich in history and counts as one of the oldest golf clubs in South Africa, circa 1908.
Owner and golfer, Shawn Nicolson, will be hosting the group and has promised to keep you updated while on tour, so stay tuned next week 27-29 February 2024.

Yesterday (February 11th) marked the 34th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela.
What should have been an hour drive from the prison site near Franschhoek to Cape Town, took 4 hours! The motorcade was delayed en route by people hoping to catch a glimpse of Nelson.

South Africa became the first nation to win four Rugby World Cup titles after holding off New Zealand in a dramatic final at Stade de France earlier in 2023.
Prior to the win, President Ramaphosa announced that IF the Boks won the final, he would grant a public holiday. They did, so he did and that day is today 🥳
We are immensely proud of our Bokke, not only for their accomplishments but also the spirit of togetherness they inspire across our beautiful country.
