The excitement is building up....

This is a glimpse into day 1 for our clients who is departing middle March 2016 on the Umbwe Route!!

After an early morning breakfast, you gather your equipment and transfer to the starting point at Umbwe Gate (+- 2 100 m). Here the porters will arrange their loads and the party is assembled for the first day’s hike. You climb through rain forest for the duration of the hike until you reach Bivouac 1 at around 2 900 m. Here you overnight. (+- 5 hours hike). The path gains altitude quickly and has spectacular views of deep gorges, with glimpses of Kilimanjaro in the background. It is essential to take this path very slowly as you will be increasing in altitude very fast, which most of the time will cause problems acclimatizing.

You want to know the secret for summiting Kilimanjaro? Do you want to know how the guides and some of the porters climb the mountain four or five times per month?
The secret lies in 2 words, which all the porters and guides will tell you on the first day. It’s the secret words of success, the secret to arrive at the top, and the secret for not exhausting yourself and descending early. It’s also the mantra for allowing your body to acclimate to the altitude.
You will hear it many times, sometimes whispered to you on the trails, sometimes shouted out ahead of you in the group, you will dream this word and repeat it over and over in your head.
The words of success for climbing Kili is “Pole Pole” pronounced “pole-ay pole-ay”), which means “slowly slowly” in KiSwahili, the main language of Tanzania. You will hear Pole Pole everyday on your trip !!

GOOD NEWS from Africa !!!!! Our mom & daughter team reached Uhuru peak this morning !!! Congratulations to Marelyn & Shane Scholtz for achieving your dream together !! We are SO proud of you !! They are on their way down to Mweka camp. Can't help hearing the song 'I'm sitting on the top of Kilimanjaro' in my head now.... :)

We just made contact with our head guide in Tanzania, and he confirmed that it's going well with our mom & daughter team ! They are going strong !!! They are on their way to Karanga and attempting the summit tomorrow night.... will keep you posted !

Our group of ladies arrived safely in Tanzania and are busy with day 2 on the Umbwe route. They've stayed over in the Umbwe Camp last night and on their way to Barranco Camp. They're attempting the summit on Monday night.... Pole Pole girls ! Slowly slowly..... that's the secret !!
