The rains have started in Namibia and the Hoodias are blooming!😊Hoodia gordonii is one of the most sought after succulents due to its medicinal properties. It has been called one of the wonder plants of the twenty-first century. Hoodia gordonii is a spiny succulent. In the early stages only one stem is produced but at a later stage the plant starts branching. Mature plants can have as many as 50 individual branches and weigh as much as 30 kg. Several species of Hoodia are eaten raw. Obviously the spines must first be removed. Hoodia has been known for many years as an appetite suppressant. These appetite suppressant properties have now been developed and Hoodia derivative products are now marketed in many western countries where obesity is becoming a problem. .lodge

The Wildebeest is not an antelope appreciated for his natural beauty. They have have broad muzzles, Roman noses, and shaggy manes and tails that does not inspire portrait photography. Despite its ugly appearance, African people hold the wildebeest in such reverence that the Zulu word for wildebeest, Nkonkoni is used to denote a champion or leader in any field. The wisest and greatest traditional healer in any community is always called the 'inkonkoni'.

Although Victoria Falls are at their peak display of force in May and June, there are reasons to maybe rather visit in July and August!
👍Lower water levels and less spray give you excellent visibility of the falls
👍Livingstone Island and the rafting season open as soon as the water drops to a safe level
👍Although it is wintertime, you can expect warm and sunny days - 20-28 °C
👍There might still be enough spray to create beautiful rainbows
👍Game viewing in nearby Chobe National Park, Hwange and other game reserves is at its best

Samburu, located in the North of Laikipia, one of the less-visited regions in Kenya, promises an authentic wilderness experience. Visitors are rewarded by untouched wilderness, great wildlife densities and a safari experience away from some of Kenya's busier parks.
Striking volcanic mountains backdrop the park, and scattered across Samburu's semi-arid plains between the red dust and shrubbery are large granite rocky outcrops, tall acacias and deep craters.

Meandering through the heart of the park is the Ewaso Nyiro River. A green oasis of large doum palms and lush vegetation line the banks, breaking from the otherwise arid ecosystem and is a vital haven for wildlife.

Samburu is home to the rare northern 'special five': Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and the beisa oryx.

Beautiful Keurboomstrand -South Africa - The Keurboomstrand is situated on a perfect part of the Garden Route, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The word 'keurboom' is derived from the name of the local Keurboom tree or choice tree, with its pretty pink-mauve flowers.

The female lion does about 90% of the hunting for food, while the male lion does about 10% and often helps the female lion ‘finish off’ the hunt by pulling the prey to the ground.

The lioness is smaller than the male lion, but she is quicker – about 30% faster than a male lion when she is running. The male lion has a speed, over a short distance, of up to 55 kilometres per hour (34 miles per hour), whereas the lioness has a short-distance speed of up to 72 kilometres per hour (45 miles per hour).

The lioness stalks her prey, hiding in long grass, and watching. The lioness can hide better than the male because she is slimmer, with no long mane of hair.

Cape Town’s own snow on the mountains! Snow is practically unheard of in the Klein River Mountains but in spring time, patches of the hillside are turned snow white. The plant is a member of the daisy family called Syncarpha vestita. It is one of the Everlasting Flowers or Sewejaartjies, and this species is also commonly known as Cape Snow. The true flowers are actually a deep purplish brown with a bright orange stigma, but they are surrounded by numerous pure white bracts that envelop the flowerhead. These bracts serve two purposes. They protect the flowers when the insects are not active. So they close up over the flowers in dull weather or at night. They also act as the main attracting mechanism for the insects.

Africans effortlessly harmonize when singing. In many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the use of music is not limited to entertainment. it serves a purpose to the local community and helps in the conduct of daily routines. Traditional African music supplies appropriate music and dance for work and for religious ceremonies of birth, naming, rites of passage, marriage and funerals.
