SPOTLIGHT ON: FISH RIVER LODGE
The Fish River Lodge is the only lodge located directly on the rim of the Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia, giving guests a breathtaking view on the canyon. The lodge is set in 45 000 ha of ancient Kokerbome trees, in the Canyon Nature Park.
Guests are accommodated in 20 spacious chalets along the rim, with sufficient distance between each other to ensure privacy. Each chalet has a separate shower, dressing facility and fan. An outdoor 'bed' is available to guests who would like to sleep under the stars. The outdoor showers overlook a small rock garden, again with fantastic views, and are a great spot to cool down 'under the stars' after a dusty day's activities or drive.
The main lodge caters for indoor and outdoor living given the extremes of weather that can be experienced throughout the year. Good home-cooked food is served on handcrafted tables from reclaimed wood next to crackling fires in winter or outside on the deck in summer. Electricity is supplied through a combination of generator and solar energy and there are power points around the lodge including the rooms, to charge cell-phones and camera batteries.
Facilities: curio shop; swimming pool; indoor/ outdoor bar area; library
Activities: for the more energetic a 1-5 day walk into and along the rim of the canyon; morning/ afternoon scenic drives; sundowner trails; photography opportunities; archeological outings to the ancient pictoglyph and Stone Age sites.
Guests can fly straight in to their private airstrip - a 10 minute drive from the lodge and transfers to and from the lodge can be organized.
