You CAN NOT miss out of Africa due to these myths:
Africa is one Of the most incredible places Iâve been and I definitely intend on spending a lot more time here in the near future !
Here are some myths you should consider when thinking of travelling to Southern countries of Africa:
1. ITS DANGEROUS !! đ
Of course like any other country, there are risks. But I wouldnât say itâs too dangerous here. No more dangerous than Europe or US. I found the people to be very friendly. Like you would anywhere in the world, keep an eye on your valuables, your drinks and be aware.
2. YOUâL GET LIFE THREATENING DISEASES đ¤
Yes, some diseases are present like malaria⌠but cover up in thick clothing, wear bug spray or even take preventative medications and youâll be fine! I wouldnât say itâs a reason not to go.
Foot and mouth disease is present but not harmful to humans. You are tested for symptoms of M pox at the border - so they are taking measures to try and manage.
3. POVERTY AND CONFLICT đ
The notion that all of Africa is impoverished, disregarding its rapidly growing economies and emerging middle class. Yes poverty certainly is present in some communities, but as a tourist you are well looked after and will find modern and comfortable facilities. Some of these countries are very wealthy although the local people may be left out of this equation.
The stereotype that Africans live in primitive conditions, which overlooks modern cities, technological advancements, and progress in various fields.
4. YOUâLL BE KILLED BY ANIMALS đŚ
Yes, Africa has some wild animals and of course there is a little bit of risk. But indeed you are safe, whether itâs in your vehicle, in your accomodation or taking a friendly stroll with a zebra. Animals should be the reason TO GO not to NOT GO.
5. ITâS ALWAYS HOT đĽľ
When in fact in the mornings and evening in Southern Africa it can be quite cold.
