🌊 treasures of the sea right in front of our doorstep …

Some interesting ‘local residents’ unwittingly making a difference in our lives. 😊
pyrifera, commonly known as , is a very fast growing, localised west coast kelp that you’ll find at the inner margins of the kelp forest around the rocky reefs of . Kelp forests form important habitats for numerous species of fish and wild life, are at the base of the marine food chain providing a rich source of nutrients and food, take up CO2 from the atmosphere through the process, help protect the shoreline by providing a buffer to large storm swells like we had this past week and support coastal economies through the many and varying products that can be made from harvested kelps, as well as the life support they provide for commercially valuable and . This particular species of kelp is not the most abundant one in the forest but is unique to Kommetjie and arguably the most beautiful!

The latest addition to our household - a Pizza Braai 😊 - works fantastically and the pizza and focaccia was simply amazing and great fun 🤩- best enjoyed with friends and family for a great get-together 💕 joint effort made this a memorable day 🙏

Yesterday’s extreme heat also brought some fires.. even here in Kommetjie our pool has quite some ashes in it with hot smokey air until the evening hours… the night brought a bit of cool air and clouds - a big thank you 🙏 to the fire fighting teams
