Hi everyone,
This summer, I got the offer to spend Winter and Spring in Cape Town whilst doing my internship here at Propel Africa. I’m so glad I said yes!🌍
My name is Linn, I’m the second intern this season👋🏻 I’ve already been here for two months, and I’m so happy I still have four months to go.
Favorite activity so far? It has to be the weekend we spent in Franschhoek. Friday was spent at an evening market at Boschendal Wine Estate. On Saturday, it was time for the Wine Tram, which took us around to various wineries, and wow, we had such a great time (and a lot of wine!) Dinner was at the amazing restaurant La Motte. If you’re in Cape Town, a few days in the Winelands is a must. 🍇

The other night the Propel team was invited to the opening of the first Radisson Collection Hotel in South Africa! A stunning typical Cape Town evening with a blue sky and a magical sunset ☀️ We were spoiled with inspiring talks, music, delicious food and drinks. We also had the opportunity to meet with the professional Radisson team and colleagues from the industry. Many thanks! Congratulations to a fantastic opening ✨

Hello there! 👋🏼
My name is Frida and I'm one of two interns at Propel Africa this season 🦓☀️
My passion for travel and exploring have now led me to the tourism industry and I am beyond excited for everything I have learned so far and will be learning during my time in Cape Town 🇿🇦
Back home in Stockholm I study to become a travel consultant and I was lucky enough to end up here on the other side of the world to do my last internship before I graduate in may 🎓
One of my favorite activities I've done in the city is taking a hike up to Kloof Corner to watch the beautiful sunset Cape Town has to offer (swipe to see for yourself) 🌅

🎉 The other day we had an End of the Year Function with the Propel team! 🎉
The day started with a guided walking tour in the colorful neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap, followed by a cooking class in true Cape Malay style. After the delicious lunch we were surprised with a SUP session in the Waterfront canals 🏄🏼♀️
We ended the day with an inspection followed by sunset drinks at Radisson Red roof top bar and then dinner at The Silo.
All in all, a great day with the Propellers! ✨

🇸🇪✨ Consulate of Jämtland in Cape Town✨🫎
Last Thursday, we officially (and humorously) inaugurated the Consulate of the Republic of Jämtland in Cape Town. Forget royal ceremonies—this was an AW-style celebration with a Nordic twist.
On top of a short speech from our newly minted Consul Pernilla Landstedt, we were delighted to receive video greetings from both the Swedish Ambassador to South Africa, Håkan Juholt , and the President of the Republic of Jämtland, Eva Röse 🙏Talk about a global Jämtland moment!
Big thanks to everyone who joined us, laughed with us, and helped us make history. Special shoutout to First Thursdays for being the perfect post-inauguration vibe. Skål till framtiden för Jämtland i världen! 🥂🌍 ”Jämtland, Jämtland jamt å ständut”

Did you know that the Cape Town Marathon hosted 21,000 runners last week?
The 4.2k road race event took place on Sunday the 19th of October with runners from all over the world.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon has officially been confirmed as an Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) candidate race - the first marathon in Africa to be nominated.
This year we saw history being made with a new record 🥇
Glenrose Xaba smashed the previous women’s record with a new time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 22 seconds (almost seems like that was planned 😉).
A huge win for South Africa, and Glenrose, to win on home soil 🇿🇦

Did you know that on Tuesday the 24th of September, South Africa celebrated Heritage Day?
However, it wasn’t always called Heritage Day… Years ago, we called it ‘Shaka Day’.
Shaka day was in commemoration of King Shaka Zulu who brought together different Zulu clans. With the new Public Holidays bill that was announced in 1995, Shaka day was renamed to Heritage day. This is a day where we aim to celebrate the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
It is also commonly known as ‘Braai day’, which empowers South Africans to gather around the braai, cool good food and celebrate the rich cultural landscape amidst the backdrop of a shared tradition, the braai. 🇿🇦🔥💃

On Friday, The 9th of Aug, is National Women’s Day.
This Public Holiday is a reminder of the important contributions women make to society, as well as a time to ponder the advances in women’s rights.
We commemorate the march of 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in 1956. These women protested against the pass laws of Apartheid. One of the laws stated that individuals defined as ‘non European’ had to carry a pass book with them at all times which helped to control segregation and urbanisation of the country.
The first National Women’s day was celebrated on the 9th of August 1995.🙌 🇿🇦

Along with some industry colleagues one of us Propellers were invited to spend a weekend in beautiful George to get to know more about Fancourt - the home to some of our favourite golf courses.
We got to experience the property as a whole with all of its amenities. Enjoyed lovely dinner and breakfast at the in-house restaurants; Monet & La Cantina and got well rested in the lovely Manor House.
As the cherry on top we took a short trip via the scenic Outeniqua pass to visit Herold Wines where we were treated with a tour and tasting.
We are looking forward to be back accompanied by our guests!

Did you know that ‘Nelson’ is not our first black presidents birth name? His birth name was ‘Rolihlahla’ which translate to ‘Trouble maker’. The name Nelson was given to him by his elementary school teacher who could not pronounce his birth name.

As Freedom Day, the 16th of June, was a Sunday this year the day after became a Public Holiday.
This year marks the 48th anniversary of the 16th of June 1976 student uprising in Soweto, when young people protested against the Bantu Education Act.
This year’s commemoration of Youth Month, has the theme “Actively advancing socioeconomic gains of our democracy”, and will add significance as it coincided with the celebration of 30 Years of Freedom.
Amongst other key areas, this year’s youth month commemoration focused on sports for development of our youth and our nation.
Our first democratic president, Nelson Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.”
Sport has the power to positively impact the lives of youth and help them tackle some of the challenges they face. Through sport, the youth can unlock opportunities for growth and investment.

My name is Kim and I am the newest addition to the Propel family!
While my family is German and Austrian, I was born and raised in Cape Town. I’ve traveled Europe, seen some of the most beautiful places, and can confidently say South Africa is still my favorite place in the world ☀️
How could it not be? I love the mountains, the ocean, and every biltong shop I come across.
In my free time you’ll find me surfing, running, cycling, or hiking with my dog 🏄♀️ 🐕 ⛰️
It is only the start of my travel career, but I am already so excited for everything ahead!
