On Friday, The 9th of Aug, is National Women’s Day.

This Public Holiday is a reminder of the important contributions women make to society, as well as a time to ponder the advances in women’s rights.

We commemorate the march of 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in 1956. These women protested against the pass laws of Apartheid. One of the laws stated that individuals defined as ‘non European’ had to carry a pass book with them at all times which helped to control segregation and urbanisation of the country.

The first National Women’s day was celebrated on the 9th of August 1995.🙌 🇿🇦

Along with some industry colleagues one of us Propellers were invited to spend a weekend in beautiful George to get to know more about Fancourt - the home to some of our favourite golf courses.

We got to experience the property as a whole with all of its amenities. Enjoyed lovely dinner and breakfast at the in-house restaurants; Monet & La Cantina and got well rested in the lovely Manor House.
As the cherry on top we took a short trip via the scenic Outeniqua pass to visit Herold Wines where we were treated with a tour and tasting.

We are looking forward to be back accompanied by our guests!

Along with some industry colleagues one of us Propellers were invited to spend a weekend in beautiful George to get to know more about Fancourt - the home to some of our favourite golf courses.

Did you know that ‘Nelson’ is not our first black presidents birth name? His birth name was ‘Rolihlahla’ which translate to ‘Trouble maker’. The name Nelson was given to him by his elementary school teacher who could not pronounce his birth name.

As Freedom Day, the 16th of June, was a Sunday this year the day after became a Public Holiday.

This year marks the 48th anniversary of the 16th of June 1976 student uprising in Soweto, when young people protested against the Bantu Education Act.

This year’s commemoration of Youth Month, has the theme “Actively advancing socioeconomic gains of our democracy”, and will add significance as it coincided with the celebration of 30 Years of Freedom.

Amongst other key areas, this year’s youth month commemoration focused on sports for development of our youth and our nation.

Our first democratic president, Nelson Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.”

Sport has the power to positively impact the lives of youth and help them tackle some of the challenges they face. Through sport, the youth can unlock opportunities for growth and investment.

My name is Kim and I am the newest addition to the Propel family!
While my family is German and Austrian, I was born and raised in Cape Town. I’ve traveled Europe, seen some of the most beautiful places, and can confidently say South Africa is still my favorite place in the world ☀️

How could it not be? I love the mountains, the ocean, and every biltong shop I come across.
In my free time you’ll find me surfing, running, cycling, or hiking with my dog 🏄‍♀️ 🐕 ⛰️
It is only the start of my travel career, but I am already so excited for everything ahead!

Yesterday musicians, performers and families paraded the streets in colourful uniforms singing, dancing and playing music. The parade is a cultural tradition that dates back to the early years of colonisation and slavary.

Dassies are small, furry mammals that belong to the family Procaviidae. They are found in southern Africa and are known for their rock-climbing abilities. ⛰️

Dassies have thick, padded feet that help them grip onto rocks and prevent them from slipping. They have a rounded body shape and short legs, and they are covered in a thick coat of fur that helps them stay warm in the chilly mountain air.

Despite their small size, dassies are an important part of the food chain in their region, serving as prey for larger predators such as leopards and eagles.

One other reason Dassies are important is that they help spread seeds from plants when they eat fruits. 🫘

This process, known as endozoochory, is important for the growth and survival of many plant species. By consuming fruits and then excreting the seeds in their f***s, dassies help disperse the seeds over a wider area, increasing the chances that they will find suitable soil and conditions for growth.

In this way, dassies play an important role in maintaining the plant biodiversity of their ecosystem. 🌱♾️
