Sam recently had a delicious lunch at Therapy in Gardens, Cape Town. It’s a relaxed restaurant with great service and a friendly atmosphere. They do music on Thursday and Sunday evenings, plus a lovely outdoor area that’s perfect for sunny days. If you’re looking for quality food without the formality of fine dining, this is the spot. We’re definitely adding it to our favourite restaurants to recommend in Cape Town!

Mashatu has recently launched a new experience for wildlife lovers and photographers alike: the Lala Limpopo Sleep-Out Hide.

This new underground overnight hide offers a completely immersive way to experience the nocturnal side of Mashatu, set at a private waterhole, the hide allows guests to observe and photograph wildlife at eye level from a comfortable underground suite. Night-time sensors around the waterhole alert you to any animal activity, so you’ll never miss a moment, while custom lighting allows you to adjust brightness and direction to capture extraordinary images from dusk until dawn.

The hide accommodates up to four guests in two bedrooms and it includes a lounge, kitchen, bathroom facilities, a private courtyard, and a dedicated photographic area with ground-level windows. Meals are delivered directly to the hide, so you can stay completely immersed in the experience.

This is a first-of-its-kind overnight experience at Mashatu — intimate, innovative, and designed for those who want to witness the wild in a whole new light.

Sam recently dined at The Fat Butcher in Stellenbosch and absolutely loved it! She started off with snails — served in a creamy roasted garlic, parsley, and Danish Danablu cheese sauce. Then of course, she had a beautiful cut of beef for her main course. A must-visit for meat lovers and one of our favourite restaurants to recommend in the Winelands for this very reason!

Meet the Team Monday!

Meet Juan, an Inspired Journey Expert at Livingstone Safaris!

Juan’s love for Africa began with childhood camping trips to KwaZulu-Natal and Kruger. Growing up in Pietermaritzburg, near the Midlands and Drakensberg, he developed a deep appreciation for nature and adventure.

After studying Hotel Management and working in England, the pull of African sunsets and the fish eagle's call brought him home. He spent several years in top-end hotels before moving into the safari industry six years ago.

At Livingstone Safaris, Juan combines his hospitality background with extensive regional travel to design personalised journeys across Sub-Saharan Africa. A passionate birder, diver, and foodie, he’s always seeking out new experiences – but nothing beats a gin and tonic by the fire at sunset.

A little more about Juan!

- Beach or Safari Holiday?
Hands down Safari, unless there is Scuba Diving involved… But either one is a win for me, to be out in nature!

- If you could explore any African country, which one would it be and why?
Zambia is high up on my bucket list, with its natural beauty and diverse wildlife.

- What’s your ideal safari activity - game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon rides etc?
A slow, morning game drive, when you can smell the rich earth, grasses and all of last night’s activity, and then see the bush wake up as the sun rises – Bliss!

- What’s one African landmark or natural wonder you’d love to see in person?
Volcanos National Park and Nyungwe Forest to see the primates in Rwanda would be incredible.

- What’s the most unforgettable travel experience you’ve ever had?
My first time in the Okavango Delta will always stay strong in my memories – it was a life-changing experience to observe this spectacular wilderness area.

Meet the Team Monday!

Meet Thana, an Inspired Journey Expert at Livingstone Safaris!

With a lifelong passion for South Africa, where she was raised, and over 25 years of experience in the tourism industry, she has dedicated her career to sharing the beauty of Africa with others. After completing a National Diploma in Tourism, her journey began as a hostess on Intercape buses, followed by travels abroad and a tour-guiding course in Cape Town, where she also picked up conversational Spanish. She gained valuable experience at Mila Safaris and spent 13 years at ATG Jedek Travel before joining the Livingstone Safaris Dream Team in 2016.

Since then, she has crafted tailor-made itineraries, drawing on her deep knowledge and personal exploration of Southern Africa. From rhino notching at Marataba and tiger fishing on the Zambezi to cultural encounters in Kenya and Tanzania, her travels have shaped her approach to curating unforgettable journeys. She thrives in the company of conservation-focused, adventure-loving colleagues, and finds joy in connecting with people from all walks of life. Her advice to travellers: embrace the kindness of Africa, its people, wildlife, and landscapes—and let it leave a lasting imprint on your soul.

Meet the Team Monday!

Meet Melissa, an Inspired Travel Planner at Livingstone Safaris!

Born and raised in Cape Town, with a business degree from Stellenbosch University, I began my career in back-of-house positions across a range of industries, including civil engineering and media, before transitioning into hospitality. My curiosity for the world led me to the yachting industry, where I worked as a stewardess aboard luxury yachts in the Mediterranean.

Over time, I had the opportunity to travel extensively through Europe, cross the Atlantic, and explore the Caribbean and the USA. After a short period in business development, I returned to yachting and realised, at 32, that hospitality wasn’t just a passion—it was the career I wanted to commit to long term. Today, as an Inspired Journey Planner at Livingstone Safaris, I channel that same dedication, curiosity, and care into crafting unforgettable experiences for our travellers.

A little more about Melissa!

- Beach or Safari Holiday?
I prefer a nice relaxing beach holiday, tanning in the sun and swimming in warm ocean waters.

- If you could explore any African country, which one would it be and why?
I would like to visit Egypt. Since I was young, I have always been interested in history / archaeology, and I am particularly fascinated by Egyptology.

- What’s your ideal safari activity - game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon rides etc?
I really enjoy walking safaris as it makes me feel the most connected the bush and nature.

- What’s one African landmark or natural wonder you’d love to see in person?
I’d love to see The Great Pyramid of Giza

- What’s the most unforgettable travel experience you’ve ever had?
I would have to say when I did my first Atlantic crossing in my yachting career and sailed from Barcelona all the way to the Caribbean Island of Saint Martin. Being on the vast open water for 2 weeks with its incredible sunsets and stary nights was really spectacular.
