Meet the Team Monday!
We’re excited to start a new weekly feature where each Monday, we share a bit about one of our team members so everyone can get to know them a bit better.
Meet Sussi, the CEO & founder of Livingstone Safaris!
Originally from Sweden with a Swedish father and an English mother, Sussi’s first encounter with Africa was in 1989 when she visited Zimbabwe and was bitten by the “African Bug”! After 10 years running Livingstone Safaris in Zimbabwe, she moved to Cape Town in 2000 and hasn’t looked back. She is passionate about the African bush, wildlife, and, most importantly, people and hospitality. Her travel tip is: pack 20% less than you think you need and save the luggage space for fabulous local artefacts to take home.
A little more about Sussi!
- Beach or Safari Holiday?
I’m 70% a bush baby and 30% a beach babe!
- If you could explore any African country, which one would it be and why?
Madagascar as I have never been and with its unique wildlife that occurs nowhere else on earth, it is bound to be extraordinary.
- What’s your ideal safari activity - game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon rides etc?
It’s a toss up between a gentle boat ride on the Lower Zambezi River watching elephants swimming across, and a game drive as the sun is about to set, not knowing what might be around the next corner.
- What’s one African landmark or natural wonder you’d love to see in person?
Having been lucky to see many of them already, I am yet to have been on The Nile River and hope to one day!
- What’s the most unforgettable travel experience you’ve ever had?
It’s difficult to say – gorilla trekking in Rwanda, floating above a pride of lions in a hot air balloon and sleeping under the stars in the middle of a saltpan in Botswana are all up there among the most unforgettable experiences.
