Laureus Challenge South Africa 2024
🌍 Mission: A 4-day, 100km trek across South Africa's breathtaking Western Cape, all for one powerful goal – improving the mental wellbeing of young people around the world.

When you see the word 'Challenge' in an event title, you know it’s going to be tough … and tough it was! 💪
So when I was asked to join the guiding team, I didn’t hesitate: 'It sounds like fun!' 😅

Being a mountain guide doesn’t make us immune to blisters or sore feet! It’s not every day you tackle 100km, and I was reminded of that pretty quickly.

The highlight? Sharing the trail with sporting legends and Laureus Ambassadors like Bryan Habana, Schalk Brits, Saray Khumalo, Sir Andrew Strauss OBE, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Annabelle Bond, and an incredible group of participants from South Africa and around the world. 🌟

Everyone was down-to-earth, kind, and inspiring. Truly a moment I’ll cherish forever.

Let’s keep making a difference, one step at a time. 🥾💙

It was an honour and pleasure to be selected as one of the guides at the Laureus 4-day 100km Challenge.
The event was a fundraiser to improve the mental wellbeing of young people around the world.
Guests and Laureus Ambassadors flew in from around the world to take part.

Leave your pots at home and eat straight out of the bag.
All you need is a small kettle to boil the water.

After a few disastrous dinner-timed sandstorms in the canyon last season, I decided to put my cullinary skills aside and go with a 100% Forever Fresh dinner-time plan.

Every item in my backpack is carefully weighed and, in another dry season where extra water has to be carried, I have managed to shed 1,5kg in overall weight. The weight saving comes from the lighter food packs and the pot & pan set that is no longer needed. I now only carry a small kettle for boiling.

Without knocking any other brands, I’ve seen and tried the difference between dehydrated meals and freeze dried which is why I am more than happy to be affiliated with Forever Fresh.

Preparation for freeze dried is simple: Cut the packet, add water, stir, zip closed and wait a few minutes – ready to eat! Rehydration times are different from product to product but 10 minutes is probably all you need.
De-hydrated meals you have to empty the contents into a pot, add water and wait for contents to hydrate. You then have to cook for a few minutes whilst stirring and then allow to stand for a further few minutes. The whole process probably takes about 30mins.
