Look into the gorgeous eyes of this baby mountain gorilla and you might get an idea of what he was talking about. This little ape may be destined to dwarf most of the other animals in the forests of Volcanoes National Park, but for now, she's just as fragile and adorable as any toddler.
In any given mountain gorilla family, there could be up to six infants at a time. They spend their days playing, wrestling, and climbing trees, in between feeding and grooming time with mom. Sometimes, they even get the stoic silverbacks to join in for playtime!

Our writer and editor, Micky, recently had the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream and go on a gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda. After just an hour and a half of hiking, he got to spend an hour watching these graceful, immense apes going about their daily business in the dense Afromontane forests of Volcanoes National Park.
Rwanda's gorilla conservation story is one of success and hope. Although still critically endangered, there are now well over 1,000 mountain gorillas in the wild across Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
