A visit to the Diaz museum is well worth it. Spend some time in the gardens, on a good day during whale 🐋 season you will see Whales passing in the bay. Visit the museum to see artifacts of Bartolomeu Diaz and the replica of the " Bartolomeu Diaz Caravel, very interesting facts. A must visit.

It is with a heavy heart ❤️ and great sadness 😔 that I report the untimely passing of our dear colleague Edwin Pillay. He was truly a legend in the Tourism Industry, a friend to many and part of the Stobers Tours Family. R.I.P my very dear and good friend 🙏

In our home we eat soup and savouries every night in Ramadan as both my husband and I grew up with this.
I make a big pot of soup, cool it and put it in tupperware’s and freeze it. It normally keeps me a few days.
Later at night after Taraweegh we will have a light meal and something sweet like boeber, bollas, doughnuts, koesisters, fritters etc. Suhoor will be dates, fruit, yoghurt and water. No teas or coffees but plenty of water.

This year alhamdulillah my husband and I as well as my daughter will spend the last 10 days of Ramadan in Makka and Madina insha Allah. We will also be spending the 3 days of Eid in Madina insha Allah. Exiting times.

Salwaa's Barley & Vegetable Soup

Salwaa's Cape Malay Cooking
From My Kitchen To Yours - keeping our heritage alive

Ingredients:
1 packet of soup mix with barley
A few pieces of bony beef pieces
7 allspice
7 cloves
1kg of carrots about 8-10 large carrots
2 large tomatoes
2 large onions
2 large potatoes
1 bunch celery
1/2 bunch parsley
1 cube beef stock
1 cube vegetable stock
Salt and pepper to taste

Method:
Rinse the soup mix a couple of times
Pour it into a large deep pot add the allspice, cloves as well as the meaty bones if using.
The bony beef pieces gives depth and flavour to the soup. Cover with water and bring to the boil.
Simmer until the soup mix are soft.

Meanwhile clean and cut the vegetables into smaller pieces. Liquidise or grate the vegetables, add water as required.
Pour the liquidised vegetables into the pot with the cooked soup mix.
Season to taste.
Add beef and vegetable stock
Bring the soup to a boil.
Once it starts boiling, lower the heat and leave the soup to simmer for a couple of hours.
Stir now and then, adding water as required.

Do you know the history of the harbour? 🤔

In 1860, Queen Victoria’s second son, Prince Alfred, tipped the first load of stone into the sea to initiate the construction of harbour called the Alfred Basin. The construction of the harbour turned the city into a hive of seafront activity. The harbor became a staging post on a major east-west trade route. The subsequent discovery of gold and diamonds in South Africa rendered the Alfred Basin unable to accommodate the increasing number of ships. The exigency of the situation led to the construction of the Victoria Basin in 1920.

The harbour is now at the center of Cape Town’s major tourism and leisure hub featuring residential and commercial properties, luxury hotels, specialty shops, retail stores, restaurants, cafes, pubs, and other leisure and entertainment facilities. Although the V&A Waterfront evolved into a modern favourite Cape Town destination, it retained the charm of Victorian industrial architecture with its notable heritage buildings.
