On-the-ground with Guide Banda:

"One morning, I conducted a game drive to Moremi Game Reserve. The drive started well, with a pack of wild dogs on a kill just 5 minutes from the entrance to Moremi. We also saw a pride of lions and general game.

I finally chose a beautiful lagoon with a lot of water birds and hippos for our tea stop. As we were having our tea, an alarm call from vervet monkeys caught our attention. I told my guests that those monkeys either saw a leopard or some lions. We quickly packed up so that we could go see what was happening.

As we were about 10 meters from the tree where monkeys were, a female leopard came down the same tree and stood at its base, looking up at the monkeys. After maybe 2 minutes on the ground, it decided to climb up the tree again, targeting a monkey. It happened in a split second. And luckily, I was ready with my camera to be able to capture it."

On-the-ground with Guide Banda

"I'm Kutlwano Banda. I was born and raised in a small village on the northern edge of Moremi Game Reserve called Khwai. I started guiding in January 2006, and I have been with African Bush Camps for 7 years.

My love for wildlife goes back to the early 90’s when I paged through my father’s guidebook called 'Endangered Species'. I asked my dad, what is the meaning of endangered? He told me it's animals that are in danger of being destroyed to a point of no longer existing in the world. This touched me a lot because growing up in an area where wild animals roam through the village day and night, I didn’t think that if we don’t take care of them they will disappear one day. This and the fact that my father was also a guide inspired me to become a guide.

The biggest lesson I have learnt as a guide is that guiding is not all about showing guests our nature and wildlife, some guests come here to meet us and learn about our culture and how we used to live with these animals in their natural habitat." - Banda

"Lazy afternoons by the pool at Bumi Hills were unforgettable.

The way the infinity pool seamlessly blends into Lake Kariba made it feel like we were
floating on the lake itself. With the soft breeze flowing through the white curtains and the
African sun warming us, it was the perfect spot to escape, relax, and just be. I could’ve spent all day here—cocktail in hand, a good book, and that endless view.

Bumi, you’ve stolen our hearts!" - Nikita

"As we gather on the floodplains of Lake Kariba for our bush dinner, the night comes alive with the sounds and sights of the African wilderness.

The rhythmic beat of drums and the harmonious voices of the locals echo across the landscape, their music weaving through the cool evening air. I can feel the ground pulse with the energy of the dancers, their movements grounding me in the vibrant rhythm of the night.

This is a moment of genuine connection with the spirit of Africa." - Nikita

"Sitting quietly on the boat, the calm of Lake Kariba's water wraps around us, its glassy surface reflecting the peaceful stillness of the moment.

Against the backdrop of an amber sunset, we watched these fishermen casting their nets for the night on the silent waters of Lake Kariba. Each motion spoke of generations of knowledge and a deep connection to the lake, a way of life carved from this majestic backdrop.

As night gently unfurled its cloak, the scene was a strong reminder of the timeless bond between the fishermen and the waters of Kariba." - Nikita
