AWD Tours SA was born from the simple idea that there are like-minded owners of all-wheel-drive SUVs who want to experience the thrill of off-road adventures. While car clubs often focus on fast cars or extreme off-roading, we’ve created a space for those who enjoy nature and exploring scenic, remote locations that can’t be reached by ordinary road cars.

Our tours aren’t about testing your vehicle to its limits or navigating treacherous terrain, but about immersing yourself in South Africa’s beauty in a relaxed, fun, and damage-free way.

You can expect a daily breakfast included in your package, and sometimes dinner, depending on accommodations. Lunches are typically on your own, but we’ll provide packed lunches on remote trips. Overberg Tour - A Scenic Getaway to Malagas Pont & Beyond 🌿✨

Our latest adventure started off with a breathtaking drive through the old Houw Hoek Pass (also known as the Railway Pass). Despite its proximity to the N2, the peaceful surroundings made it feel like we were miles from civilisation – truly one of our favourite roads!

From Botriver, we took the picturesque Van der Stel Pass Road and Helderstroom Road to Greyton, where we stopped to support the local community at their Saturday Market. After a delightful brunch, we hit the road again, heading towards the iconic Malagas Pont via Riviersonderend and a few less-travelled farm roads.

While the new motorised pont is certainly faster, we couldn’t help but miss the charm of the old hand-drawn one. That said, it's still an unforgettable bucket-list experience that shouldn’t be missed!

The roads were a bit rough in parts, but we eventually arrived at our overnight accommodation. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to split the group between two different establishments. But both offered something truly special.

Stonehill River Lodge impressed as always with its luxurious villas, each boasting a private whirlpool bath on the deck. The warm welcome from management and the stunning surroundings made it an exceptional stay. Meanwhile, Kwetu Guest Farm, just up the road, provided an entirely different experience – a tranquil, wildlife-filled escape that radiated peacefulness like no other.

We gathered at Stonehill River Lodge for a final braai, where laughter and stories flowed, bringing our adventure to a joyful end. Another incredible tour, more memories made!

🚙 Die Hel & Garden Route Tour! 🌍✨

Our latest adventure kicked off at the Swartberg Hotel in Prince Albert, where we celebrated Josh Venter's first-ever tour and his birthday! The group treated him to a special dinner with a candle-lit cupcake and a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday from everyone in the restaurant.

After a delicious breakfast the next morning, we set off up the historic Swartberg Pass to tackle the journey to Gamkaskloof, better known as Die Hel. A few first-timers were a little anxious about the "Closed" sign and the "37km - 2 hours" distance warning, but we safely navigated the slightly rougher-than-usual road.

Once we arrived, Marinette treated us to a fantastic lunch, followed by a captivating history talk by Pieter Joubert, a true "Gamkaskloofer." After some rest, the evening wrapped up with a lovely group braai. Big thanks to Johann and Danie for manning the grill, and to the ladies for making the salads and leaving the kitchen spotless!

On Monday morning, we were spoiled with another delightful breakfast from Marinette before departing Die Hel and heading for Knysna. Many stops later (and much later than anticipated!), we arrived at our charming base for the next two nights, 47th on Howard. The rest of the day was spent at leisure, giving everyone a chance to unwind.

Tuesday brought us a full day of adventure as we tackled the Simola Hillclimb route, Gouna Road, and the scenic Knysna Forest via "Kom se Pad," making sure to stop at the Diepwalle Forestry Station and Spitzkop Viewpoint for breathtaking views. The narrow road to Uniondale demanded careful driving, and our trusty two-way radios were essential in warning the convoy about oncoming traffic.

Why some drivers insist on speeding through such scenic areas is beyond us! After a delightful lunch in Uniondale, we returned via Keurbooms and Plettenberg Bay for a well-deserved evening of free time.

The tour concluded with a final breakfast together on Wednesday morning. Another unforgettable experience with no flat tyres and many new friendships forged! 💪
