Exploring your backyard often pays unexpected dividends. A visit to the Protea Farm in the Koo Valley near Montagu in the Klein Karoo is such an experience. Never-ending views. Steep ascends where even a baboon will struggle. Unspoilt Cape Fynbos. Clean air. You name it they have it, mother nature at her best. For lunch they serve the best “potjiekos” and “vetkoeke”.

Our new favourite place in this stunning country - Camp Kipwe. We must admit this list is getting longer. At least we have lots of space for our favourite places! This place is insane. Sunsets to beautiful to describe. The Twyfelfontein region to mesmerising to capture on a photo. Searching for the desert adapted elephant takes a safari experience to a new level.

An adventure for young and old! We had endless fun riding the dune rollercoaster. Besides surfing the sea of sand we enjoyed beautiful views of the Atlantic coastline. A must do activity!

There is not much to see besides a gas station, a lodge and the coffee shop, but believe us, you will not forget Solitaire because there is much to experience. Final reflections on a great 2022 African adventure. 16 days, 3900km, 7 adventure bikes and 4 countries. Botswana, Zambia and finally Malawi

Malawi - We added more time to explore Malawi and were not disappointed. The tea plantations around Mount Mulanje is stunning. The numerous back roads we took offered great riding and scenery, real off the beaten track stuff. Finally at lake Malawi we enjoyed the peace and tranquility it is known for. Thanks to Dedza Pottery for the old school charm it offered us, for Africa Wild Trucks and the stunning scenery all around and finally Kingfisher Inn where we could just chill. We already have a starting date and are planning our 2023 tour.

Zambia - the new Kazangulu border facilities are great. It's clean and spacious and everything is under one roof! But, it still took us 4 hours to cross. Let's not chat about the amount of paper they print to have all of this done - crazy! Having 7 motorcycles does offer its challenges. But Zambia treated us really well! Friendly people, happy to see us after 2 years. The Victoria Falls Waterfront Lodge superb! Protea Hotel Lusaka offered what we needed. But, our best experience was at outside South Luangwa National Park. By far my (new) favorite game park in southern Africa. The game viewing superb and the diversity of the park unique. Flatdogs Camp will see us again, best food in Zambia. We will be back in 2023.

Botswana: it is a great destination to visit. Our arrivals border crossing went smoothly, yet slow when we had to make payment for the bikes. We were also informed that the P**a is the only currency to be accepted for payment. In the past both ZAR and P**a could be used. Heading north we stayed . It was defenitely our Botswana highlight, being so close to the elephants and listening to the heyanas all night was a surreal experience for most. The face of Kasane is changing with more modern lodges and shopping centre's going up. Our stay at the new villas Chobe was great. Our Chobe boat safari yet another great experience despite high water levels resulting in fewer small animals viewed, but still great fun and a "must-do-activity". Our Kazangulu border crossing a first over the new bridge and exiting Botswana was easy going. See you again in March 2023.
