Cape Town-based Miss Nazreen Salie founded Cape Malay Consultants in 2004, drawing on heritage-culture to actively participate in international real estate markets, tourism markets, trading in the global halal market-place, marketing and media.
Cape Malay Consultants has been active in the global Halal market since 2006; encouraging and facilitating the growth of South Africa as a globally-competitive supplier of Halal goods and services; has since been invited onto the #WesternCape Government’s Halal Consultative Forum; and earlier this year, during World Halal Week, launched Experience Halaal South Africa, an online think-tank.
Miss Salie currently represents Malaysia in South Africa for events and organisations such as the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), Halal Fiesta ASEAN (HalFest ASEAN), Malaysia International Islamic Lifestyle Secretariat South Africa (MILE), OIC’s Muslim World Biz; is Chairperson of The Malay & Islamic World (DMDI) in South Africa which is a country-member, Restu Foundation; and a founder-member (South Africa) of The World Malay Polynesia Organisation (WMPO), amongst others.
Since 2008 Ms Salie has attended and participated, annually, in:
World Halal Forum
World Halal Research Summit
MIHAS
and in 2015 added
World Halal Summit
all of which were excellent opportunities for networking internationally and promoting #SouthAfrica’s halaal products and services; and floating the idea of SA as the #halal hub for #Africa with #CapeTown, as the Cradle of #Islam in #RSA, as the preferred location.
In 2009 Ms Salie founded “Experience Halaal”, held concurrently with the Good Food & Wine Show. It was a resounding success, exceeding the targets imposed by GourmetSA, in testing the waters for demand and interest in halaal-certified products and services.
With her passion for Halal Tourism, in 2013 Ms Salie passed the Crescentrating International Auditors’ examinations; and has since established “South Africa Halal Tour” marketing platform. During MIHAS 2017 Muslim packages to South Africa were marketed via the “Experience Halaal SA” expo stand and
also showcased on TV Al Hijrah Malaysia. Amongst her Muslim tourists inbound into SA, and Cape Town, were Officials of State Government Departments and parastatals; also couples, families and groups from within the Malay Archipelago (Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore) with the largest group enquiry being for 1,500 pax.
In 2014 Ms Salie was appointed by Gourmet SA as Halal Adviser to Fiera Milano and was instrumental in bringing to Cape Town Professor Hajah Mariam Abd Latiff, world-renowned halal commerce hub/centre industry trainer and consultant; and doyenne of the Malaysia Halal MasterPlan. Their slot at Fiera Milano’s Conference at the CTICC was the most well-attended Talk of the event.
In 2015 MIHAS Secretariat tasked Ms Salie in addition, with the New Zealand halal empowerment programme which bore fruit with high-powered active participation at World Halal Week 2016 as exhibitors and delegates, resulting in Maori-Halal becoming a reality in 2017 when it was launched at MIHAS in KLCC.
Most recently Mdm Nazreen has been recruited by Japan Halal to join this fledgling team in Japan’s halal quest; by Singapore to manage their ASEAN project in South Africa and assist with a halaal pavilion in Xi’an (China); also by Indonesia Halal Expo, Korea Halal, Penang Halal Expo, Australia Halal Expo, Russia Halal, Oman Halal, Dubai Halal. She has most recently been approached by Mauritius, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Ms Salie is currently engaged in ensuring accredited education in halaal; and online sales platforms be available to South Africans in the very near future.
Early Years
Nazreen Salie attended Alexander Sinton High School, serving as Head Prefect (1983), Chairperson of ASHS Welfare Society for 4 years, and editor of “Sinton Speaks Out” for 3 years.
Thereafter Ms Salie was employed at Durr Estates, to help establish what was then a new newspaper: the Cape Property Guide; founding it’s International Division, Call Centre, acted as Lan Supervisor for the Realty-1 Durr Group nationally during it’s innovative computerisation roll-out, as guinea-pig for the internet when UCT decided to explore commercial options, designed the first website for real estate agencies, sold the first 2 properties sight-unseen over the Net in South Africa; was co-opted by Siemens to showcase her work in an effort to persuade the German Parliament to not ban the Internet in Germany.
