Singapore Airlines will resume direct non-stop flights from Cape Town to Singapore on 1 July. Flight SQ481 will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing from Singapore at 01h30 and arriving in Cape Town at 10h35, return flight SQ482 will depart from Cape Town at 12h45 on the same day and arriving in Singapore at 06h10 the next morning.

Mango Airlines has experienced interruptions and delays this morning. Passengers are not happy with the situation and the airline does not yet announce the reason which caused the interruption and delays until now, as well as the solutions.

the state-owned low-cost airline is facing financial uncertainty, raising the questions about how much longer it can stay in the air.

South Africans have very limited international travel options recently due to a more infectious coronavirus variant – 501Y.V2 – which was first identified in samples gathered from the Eastern Cape, which led to a wave of fresh travel restrictions for South Africans. The good news is Singapore Airlines has allowed transporting South African travellers to countries in Asia and the South-West Pacific region, effect on 23 April. This is only for transit passengers. Passengers who are from or stayed in South Africa within the last 14 days will still be prohibited from entering the country. Emirates Airlines are resuming service to and from South Africa from 31 May as well.

UK Implements Hotel Quarantine For SA Travellers

From 15 February, when entering the UK from South Africa, you must quarantine in a government-approved hotel for 10 days. When entering Scotland, the hotel quarantine requirement applies on arrival from all countries except Ireland. It will cost around £1750 for the 10 days hotel quarantine.

To curb the importation of the new SARS-Cov-2 variant which is prevalent in South Africa, British Airways has cancelled its flights between London and Johannesburg or Cape Town until 16 April.

Emirates Flights Remain Suspended Until 28 February.

Emirates’ flights to South Africa will remain suspended until 28 February 2021, in line with recent government directives that restrict the entry of travellers originating from South Africa, into the UAE.

The airline says they will continue to work closely with all relevant authorities in this regard and looks forward to resuming passenger services when conditions allow.

Airlink Fly As An Independent Regional Airlines With New Livery

Airlink has officially become an independent regional airline by rolled out its new stunning livery in earlier December last year. The new livery features an African Sunbird set against a sunrise and dawn sky.

Airlink recently flys daily on South Africa’s busiest routes,
which from Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban, as well as to Port Elizabeth and East London. Its regional network includes from Johannesburg to Maputo and Windhoek, from Cape Town to Harare.

The airline entered a strategic alliance with South African Airways in 1997.

International travel regulations for South Africa

Current policy for travellers travel into South Africa: must take a Covid-19 PCR test within 72 hours of arrival and complete a traveller health questionnaire before departure. A copy of PCR test certificate must carry throughout their journey, along with the mandatory paperwork must be check before boarding a flight to South Africa. That paperwork includes:

+ The traveller health questionnaire
+ Proof of accommodation with an address
+ Travel insurance to cover the cost of testing, quarantine or healthcare while in the country. In addition, travellers undergo compulsory health screening for symptoms of Covid-19 and must answer any health-related questions posed by health officials

All travellers must download and install the Covid Alert South Africa app on their phones before they arrive in South Africa.

Children under five years of age may forego the Covid-19 PCR test and airline crew are allowed entry as long as they comply with international safety protocols.

For all SA outbound travellers: have to take a Covid-19 PCR test and must complete the traveller health questionnaire before departure from South Africa. Also, all travellers must comply with the requirements imposed by their next destination.

All Emirates passengers from South Africa need to take Covid-19 PCR test at least 96 hours period depart for Dubai. A hard copy of the certificates should be carried to Dubai and digital certificates aren’t accepted.

FlySafair's rights application to operate flights between South Africa and Mauritius has been approved. While a schedule is not currently available due to the island nation's travel ban to and from South Africa, the airline will introduce a twice-weekly service as soon as government regulations allow.

Airlink has launched a new non-stop service between Cape Town and Harare from 18 January 2021, as part of its latest series of new and resumed routes across its Southern African network. Flight 4Z 382, will depart Cape Town on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10.35am arriving in Harare at 1.50pm. Flight 4Z 383, will depart Harare on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 2.30pm arriving in Cape Town at 6.10pm.

British Airways will begin trialling a new travel health app, VeriFLY, with customers who are eligible to travel between London and the United States from February 4th.

Follow the way China using Wechat Health Green QR Code on people movement to control the pandemic, the new digital health travel passport, which can be downloaded to a mobile device, is designed to offer peace of mind before travel by checking customers meet the entry requirements of their destination by providing digital health document verification and confirming eligibility.

Use of the VeriFLY app will be optional and customers will also continue to be able to evidence they meet the US entry requirements at check-in.

The trail follows the recent announcement that American Airlines, British Airways’ joint business and Oneworld partner, now allows all customers to use VeriFLY when they are travelling to the US from all international destinations.

Qatar Airways continues to build Africa connections
The Middle East airline has revealed plans to grow its Africa network with plans to fly to 23 destinations on more than 100 weekly flights.
In line with the airline’s steady rebuild of its Africa network, Qatar Airways plans to increase frequencies to Cape Town to five weekly flights from February 1st, Durban to three weekly flights from February 14th, Johannesburg to 18 weekly flights from January 26th

The national carrier of Qatar continues to rebuild its network, which currently stands at over 120 destinations with plans to increase to over 130 by the end of March.
