Look what we found! 😍
Contact us to book an Otter Tracking Experience where we go on a leisurely morning or afternoon walk in the rugged and breathtakingly Cape Point Nature Reserve with one of our Otter Expert Trackers.

In August 2017 we came across this Cape Clawless Otter whilst walking in Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park.

Another job successfully completed in Hout Bay. Bit of rain, but a fine day out at sea. Well done!, Marine Team crew.

The seabed has been scoured open by the huge swells rolling in off Dungeons last week, exposing old outfall pipes and much more. The shipwrecks on the West side of the Cape Peninsula must have taken a heck of a hammering, too.

A little something about the Paquita Wreck

Sailing history of Knysna

The Paquita Wreck was an old German sail ship that struck Knysna Heads in the beginning of the 19th century.

One of the best wreck dives near Knysna is without doubt the Paquita which ran ashore in 1903. She was a 460 ton German vessel en route to Barbados when she struck Knysna Heads

According to various sources, the sinking of the Paquita was premeditated – an apparent attempt to bamboozle insurance brokers. Because the ship sank in the calmer section of the lagoon, far from the more dangerous port entrance where strong currents could genuinely cause sailing difficulty, the insurance company concerned did not pay out.

Rubber Boats are not always the bee's knee's...Sometimes it's way more comfortable and warm diving from a hard boat . This is "Sea Otter # 3", another MarineTeam boat, especially nice in windy, cooler weather.

Two great working days up at Yzerfontein, with marine and commercial dive support for the Telkom fibre optic cable inspection, which links up with the main transatlantic one. The divers use an instrument to pick up a signal from the fibre optic cable, buried below the seabed and check that the cable is not exposed. We run "Sea Otter #6, our 6m RIB, into the surf zone, drop a marker, head out to safety, then run back in with divers ready to deploy. The divers survey the designated area and we run the boat into the surf zone again and pick them up rather smartish.

MoD chiefs granted a team of specialist divers the licence to record the wreck of HMS Hampshire and capture a stunning set of photographs before the vessel is lost to the rough Scottish seas for good.

The tankers "Romelia" and "Antipolis" were under tow by the tug Kiyo Maru no.2 from Greece to scrap merchants in the Far East. On July 28th 1977 during a North Westerly gale the tow cable to the Antipolis snagged on the sea bed. In the ensuing confusion the cables broke and the two ships were driven aground by the wind.
The Romelia ran aground at Sunset Rocks, Llandudno, and the Antipolis at Oudekraal despite efforts by the salvage tug Wolraad Woltemade to tow her off. The wreck was later cut down to water level. Parts of the plating still project above the water at low tide.
Depth is 7-10m. No hazards besides the little climb down the hill and rolling Nadias.
