“Grace of the Jade Sea” - a young Turkana mother-to-be stands proudly in her traditional attire embracing the beauty of her culture and the journey of new life that lays ahead. Lake Turkana in Kenya is known as the ‘Cradle of Humankind’ because it has yielded some of the most important fossils of early human ancestors, providing key insights into human evolution.

FROST guests will next travel here on an exciting small-group expedition scheduled for late 2025 & 2026. Waiting list now open.

The vibrant Goli mask of Cote d’lvoire is the son of Nyamie, the divinity of the sky and serves as the protector of the village. Most importantly the Goli mask ceremony connects the living with ancestral spirits. This captivating dance is a small window into the rich culture of West Africa - a colourful region rich with expression in the form of fashion, dance, art and performance.

We’ve fallen in love with West Africa ❤️

The Wambele mask of Ivory Coast carries profound cultural and spiritual significance among the Senufo people, who use it in rituals that emphasize balance, protection, and the interconnectedness of life. The Janus-headed Wambele masks incorporate features borrowed from many creatures such as the tusks of warthogs and teeth from crocodiles. Decorated with feathers and porcupine-quill clusters, the Wambele appear at Senufo funerary rituals to chase away any lingering spirits that could bring misfortune to the village nearby.

‘Dinosaurs and Galaxies’ - dreamy macro images from the rainforests of Madagascar. Fine dust particles backlit by an off-camera flash created sparkly ‘starry’ scenes.

In the island country of Madagascar we visit biodiversity hotspots where we focus our attention on finding and photographing iconic (mostly endemic) smaller mammals, amphibians and reptile species.

‘Wild West Africa’ - documenting the horsemen of northern Benin this morning was one of my favourite photographic experiences to date. It was especially rewarding after months of research, planning and anticipation. Grateful to our expert local FROST Photo Safaris team in Benin and the welcoming Batombou horsemen community.

If you’d like to join me in Benin, send a DM or email [email protected] to be added to the waiting list for our travels in 2024 & 2025.

A Cheetah in the snow… Not a chance right? In 2020 I came to realize it was indeed possible with the right planning. Documenting these scenes helped tell a conservation success story of the re-introduction of endangered Cheetah to the Karoo region of South Africa. The story also shows nature’s ability to survive and adapt under even the harshest environmental conditions.

2023 has seen exciting new developments for FROST Photo Safaris as we continue to explore deeper and craft exceptional experiences for our valued guests. Expeditions in the last month include Sacred Masks of Benin in West Africa, Reindeer Herders of Northern Siberia and Remote Tribes of South Sudan.

Yamal, one the last refuges of nomadic reindeer herders, is so far north that most of it is located beyond the Arctic Circle. In this scene is Vasili, the leader of this great migration. The distant row of black dots behind Vasili is about 2000 reindeer dwarfed by the vast open landscape that is the frozen Gulf of Ob. As the world gets smaller, there’s a desire to go further.

Unlike many nomadic tribes in Russia and the world over, the Nenets people have largely retained their traditional way of life, and are famed for having the longest nomadic migration routes in the world. For centuries Nenets have survived the harsh conditions of Yamal. They have adapted to be able to live and travel in the freezing temperatures.

Our portfolio of wild places is expanding as we explore remote corners of the globe. What makes it special is that we’re returning with so much more than images. These experiences… they can’t be matched.
