Beginner Tips: Stay evenly balanced over your skis

Skiing puts you into a pretty uncomfortable and awkward position if you aren’t used to it. The boots push you forward, but the weight of the front of your skis scoots you back. Many beginners will either lean way back (often referred to as back-seat skiing) or way forward to counter-balance themselves. This is wrong. Keeping your legs squarely under your torso with your shoulders pointing downhill will give you a stronger technique with more control. Keeping your body weight directly over the ski’s narrowest point (the sweet spot) will have the ski work for you, not against you.

Editor’s Hint: If your feet are in front of your body, your leg muscles will have to work overtime to start your next turn. Skiing out of balance is exhausting. Skiing in balance is effortless.

For those who are passionate about skiing it is possible to ski in a fantastic ski area that includes 115 km of slopes of all colors, suitable for children, but also for experienced skiers! The village is, for most of the year, characterized by magnificent whitewashed landscapes and the slopes are always fanatical and perfectly groomed! Livigno is frequented by a very international audience and is known as one of the most beautiful ski resorts in Europe with a wide range of ski slopes and things to do. The peculiarity of Livigno is to be in a valley with North-South disposition that offers the possibility to find slopes in the sun from morning to evening. The two sides of Livigno offer the possibility to ski in two main areas and make different slopes: Mottolino and Carosello 3000.
Snowboarding

Livigno is also the home for snowboarders and freeskiers thanks to its many areas with Snow Park, there are in fact three main areas. The Snowpark Amerikan which is the most recent, the historical Snowpark Mottolino with half and super pipes, rails and kickers and Livigno Park Carosello 3000, on the Polvere slope, reachable with the cable car Carosello 3000 which offers a wonderful boarder cross slope.

My family and I have spent a lot of time in the various ski resorts that we market and Livigno is one of my favourite - it's small, it's friendly, it's (relatively ) inexpensive and it's fun.

There is much to take note of as you plan the intricacies of your trip - from ski clothing to flights, from ski lessons to activities and even advice on how to store your travel documents - we aim to cover as much as possible so that you can have a super, hassle-free ski holiday!

In this short message - let's cover pre- and post-ski trip travel - you've travelling so far so why not go and see a bit more of what Europe has to offer. As an idea, and I did this with my family, we did a week before our ski trip arriving in Rome and then on to Pisa, Florence, Venice and Milan. Great fun for the family and very easy to add on - traveling by train is so simple and cost-effective. We do not book these side trips but we certainly can give you solid advice. Even if you want to just spend 2 nights in Milan - it's a great city and well worth it!

Day 7: Heading Home

With heavy hearts, we packed our bags and said our goodbyes to Livigno. It had been an amazing eight days filled with laughter, adventure, and family bonding.

Day 5: Winter Wonderland

Today, we decided to take do a half day skiing and explore some of the other activities Livigno has to offer. We started our day with a thrilling snowmobile adventure, zooming through the snow-covered trails. The kids were in awe of the speed and scenery, and we even spotted some local farm animals along the way.

In the evening, we had a cozy family movie night in our chalet, complete with hot cocoa and popcorn. It was a perfect way to unwind and recharge for our final day in Livigno.

Today marked the beginning of our much-anticipated ski adventure in Livigno with our two energetic kids, Emily and Jake. We arrived in this charming Italian Alps town and were immediately captivated by the snowy landscape. The kids were ecstatic as they had never seen so much snow before!

After checking into our cozy chalet, we spent the afternoon getting our ski gear from a rental shop. The kids were thrilled to try on their colorful ski outfits, and it was a hilarious sight watching them attempt to walk in their bulky boots. We ended the day with a delicious Italian meal at a nearby restaurant, trying out local dishes and enjoying the hearty warmth of the indoors.

Ski trips are an over-packer’s worst nightmare. Especially for someone who doesn’t often visit temperatures below freezing, trips to the mountains invite anxiety and overcompensation in the form of clothing.

There are a few things that are good to know when planning for cold weather and skiing, too, that make it easier to break down all the necessary gear into manageable categories. I’ve broken the sections down into separate fields of information, so you can pick and choose the useful information.
