The Biden Administration has taken the decision to allow vaccinated travellers into the US from early November, including traffic originating in South Africa.
These passengers will require only proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test result prior to travel and, of course, the correct visa.
The new rules supersede the rules known as the 212f restrictions, which prevented anyone from entering the US if they were coming from or had been in one of 33 countries in the 14 days prior to boarding a flight bound for the US. The list of 33 countries included South Africa, the UK, Ireland, Brazil, India, Iran and China, plus the Schengen countries.

SOUTH AFRICA: COVID-19 testing opens at ORTIA
Travellers departing South Africa from OR Tambo can get COVID-19 PCR-tested and collect their certificate at the airport prior to departure, Travel News reports.
National Health Laboratory Service (www.nhls.ac.za/) is operating three mobile COVID-19 Test Units in clearly identifiable vans located opposite the InterContinental Hotel, in front of the Police Station, on the lower level of the airport complex. The service is available 24/7 according to Port Health Services, at a cost of R600 (cash, cheque cards and credit cards are accepted, except American Express). Children under five years do not require a test.
Results are available in four to six hours and the traveller is advised by SMS that the test result and certificate are ready for collection. After testing, travellers can wait for the SMS at the airport or nearby, collect the certificate, and proceed to fly, or the test may be done a day or two prior to departure if preferred, and the certificate collected on the day of departure.
Inbound travellers to South Africa, including South Africans, must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours of their departure time. This certificate is valid for the duration of the traveller’s inbound journey and takes into consideration long stopovers at transit points, but the test validity has a maximum of 14 days, and is for a single entry only. A new test is required every time a traveller departs for South Africa.

Seychelles welcomes South Africans.
South African residents are welcome to visit, with the only requirement a COVID PCR test taken 72 hours before departure.
More good news is that, from the beginning of November, Air Seychelles will resume flights between Johannesburg and Mahé.
This follows the Seychelles adding South Africa to its list of countries whose residents may visit the island for tourism.
“We’re extremely excited about being able to come back to South Africa and have South Africans come here,” Charles Johnson, Air Seychelles chief commercial officer told Travel News, adding that South Africa was one of the island’s largest source markets.
During November, Air Seychelles will operate one weekly flight on Saturdays and from December, the airline will offer three flights per week with the addition of flights on Tuesdays and Fridays.
In November, the Saturday flights will depart Johannesburg at 13h50 and arrive in Mahé at 20h45, with return flights departing Mahé at 09h25 and arriving in Johannesburg at 12h30.
WHERE TO GET A FAST COVID-19 TEST FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL.
Some international commercial airlines are requiring that passengers produce a certificate of a negative Covid-19 test that has been conducted within 72 hours (sometimes 96 hours) of departure. The same may be required when arriving at any transit airport/country.

PathCare
PathCare is offering tests specifically for travel purposes at any of its 67 testing facilities nationwide. The turnaround time is 48 hours and results will either be sent via e-mail or a hard copy can be collected from your nearest branch.
Travellers will need to present their ID and provide their passport number and passport expiry date, which will be captured on the report. Find a full list of nationwide testing facilities and contact details here.
Lancet
Lancet is offering Covid-19 tests that are accepted for travel purposes without a doctor’s referral. The turnaround time is 24-48 hours and results will be sent via SMS or e-mailed to you upon your request.
You will need to present your ID and pay for the test upfront. Find a full list of dedicated testing sites in each province, their contact details and operating hours here.
Ampath
You can do a Covid-19 test for travel purposes without a doctor’s referral but will need one if you plan on claiming back from your medical aid.
Results will be available within 24 hours. After doing the test you will be sent a link to register for Patient Results on the Ampath website where you will be able to access your results. Alternatively, you can request your results to be e-mailed to you.
You will be required to present either an ID or passport for identification purposes. Find a list of dedicated testing sites in each province, their contact details and operating hours here.
NextPath
Only in Gauteng, NextPath requires a doctor’s referral for Covid-19 tests but can provide an on-site referral for an additional R200. They offer same-day results. Results are sent via SMS and a report is e-mailed to you.
You will need to present your ID or passport number. Drive-through or walk-through tests can be conducted at either their Midrand testing centre (open Mon-Fri) or at their Sandton testing centre (open every day of the week, including public holidays). No bookings are required.
