On a trip with so many amazing lodges, it’s hard to pick a favourite.

But, for Kate it may just have to be Onguma Tented Camp. Though not the decadent Camp Kala, Onguma Tented had everything you could possibly want: a stylish suite with a beautiful view of the waterhole, a wood-fired hot tub for the cool winters which doubles as a plunge pool in summer, beautiful interiors in the main lodge, delicious and inventive food. Plus a range of activities, the suites also have Evening Breeze eco-conscious air conditioning, which means a siesta is an enjoyable possibility even in the summer months. Couldn't fault the lodge!

Kate's in Namibia in the green season, she shares why this window has been such a wonderful experience:

"Overall, we’re loving being in Namibia in the green season. We’ve had fantastic weather with some cloud-filled skies or rainbows adding drama to our photos. And we’ve had fantastic game-viewing with desert elephant, lion, a cheetah kill, both black and white rhino and even leopard. But it’s important that people know that Etosha is much quieter outside the peak season of May to early October. You will still see game, especially on the Eastern side, but not masses of different animals at any one waterhole.

Swakopmund has a range of accommodation options but most in the mid-range category. The Strand is the most upmarket option right on the seafront with plenty of sea-facing rooms, spa, gym and a choice of three restaurants: Brewer and Butcher, the Ocean Cellar (voted best restaurant in Namibia) and the more casual Farmhouse Deli. It has a great location with beach all around, with a charming promenade walk, craft market, and easy walking to the charming and quirky town shops.

Swakopmund is well worth a minimum of 2 nights, and 3 nights is ideal as there is so much to do. Our top two activities would be the Sandwich harbour 4x4 experiences and Tommys Living Desert Tour. But other amazing experiences include the Marine experience, quad-biking, scenic flights and of course sea kayaking amongst the seals. There is also a great seafood restaurant and a beach promenade to enjoy.

The Sandwich 4x4 harbour must be one of the most unique, exhilarating and scenic of excursions in Namibia. Starting with the flamingoes at Walvis Bay, then the unusual pink algae waters of the salt farms, you then drive along the Atlantic beaches where the dunes meet the sea before enjoying 4x4 driving in the dunes to stunning viewpoints.

The Deadvlei is a surreal, magical experience at any time of year but we were especially blessed - on a warm afternoon in March—to be the only ones there.
The hot air ballooning over the Namib desert was almost indescribably beautiful. Epic mountain, desert and dune scapes in every direction. Described by many of our team as one the best things they’ve ever done. Your one-hour flight ends in the desert with a champagne breakfast where you land.

When is the best time to visit Namibia?

From April to November is the best window.

Namibia is predominantly a dry desert country, and so, though it shares the same summer rainfall as most of Southern Africa, it doesn’t rain that much. However, there are clear regional differences between the much wetter Zambezi region (Caprivi strip) and the very dry Kalahari and Namib Desert.
Broadly speaking, it tends to be hot and humid, except in the western desert regions with clear mornings.
