Game Parks in Zimbabwe: Part 2

Zimbabwe's safari gems continue—today's feature is Mana Pools National Park

Part 2: Mana Pools National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the four pools along the Zambezi River are home to an abundance of wildlife, perfect for photography, canoeing, and unforgettable walking safaris.

Mana Pools is famous for its large numbers of elephants, buffalo, hippo, crocodiles, and eland. They concentrate along the river when the inland waterholes dry up, especially in the dry winter months of June to October. Leopard and lion are here, but not seen as regularly.

This World Heritage Site is one of the least developed national parks in Zimbabwe. Indeed this overwhelming sense of wilderness offers much of the attraction, alongside its wildlife.

Born Free's Big Cat Sanctuaries at Shamwari Private Game Reserve offer a haven for lions and leopards rescued from captive facilities.

This NGO sanctuary operates two camps in South Africa's Eastern Cape where big cats are free to roam, and play.

Home to 18 former captive big cats, the sanctuaries also feature educational centres that raise awareness about conservation and keeping wild animals free.

We've created this sample Young Explorers Safari in Botswana to tick all the right boxes- but as with all our safaris, we customize all our itineraries to suit you and your family.

The safari emphasis is on learning how to track game both on foot and in 4 x 4 safari vehicles. Together with how to make small animal traps and how to start a fire from nothing more than two sticks. Your children will learn how to recognize different animal tracks as well as bird identification. Exciting news from Kenya! In July 2025, &Beyond is set to open the new Suyian Lodge in Laikipia’s Suyian Conservancy.
