Just over a week ago we took a road trip up the West Coast, as an opportunity for me to reset and gather my strength for the next couple of weeks.
I have literally been on a life roller coaster these past 12 months, and I am always grateful first.
But it has literally knocked the wind out of my sails at times, and at those times I need some time in nature, waking to the sounds and sights of the ocean.
This day we chose to spend the day in the West Coast National Park while it was still quiet, before the tourists descend. Enjoying a picnic lunch and some rays whilst enjoying nature (despite the ever present wind along the West Coast) was just what the doctor ordered.

We live within the vicinity of these beautiful locations, and if you’re not able to escape to foreign shores, we always have these idyllic landscapes in our very own backyard. It’s worth considering a local getaway while the pockets recover for the next international trip.

The lights, the atmosphere and the climate all conspire to create magical experiences that expand the mind of those accustomed to sunny beach festive holidays.

It really doesn’t matter what your faith is, when travelling one will be drawn to the magnificent places of worship. There is something tranquil about all places of worship, a solitary energy that calms the senses the moment one steps onto the sacred ground.

We’ve visited churches and temples as well as mosques in various cities around the world. Part of travelling is learning about other cultures and exploring, which creates a deep understanding and tolerance for our differences 🤲🏼🙏🏼

Afterall, travel is meant to broaded our horizons.

Our team started the week engaging with the Dubai tourism board and suppliers; and it was quite an eye-opener to hear that Dubai is among the top 5 destinations for South African travellers (Source: Mastercard Economics Institute’s Travel Trends 2024)
In fact, South Africans make up the vast majority of travelers to Dubai from the entire African continent.

It’s really no secret that Dubai is a great all round destination, with family holidays, adventure, cultural, innovative activities and world class cuisine. From beach resorts, to authentic souk shopping, water sports and top class shows and performances. It has always been one of the most progressive cities; and it is a no brainer that the safety aspect is a huge draw card.

While the exchange rate is a bit of a deterrent, it is clear that South Africans are still travelling, even to places like Dubai which is generally regarded as an expensive destination. (It’s also one of the most exciting BTW!😉)

A memory captured over 15 years ago… before good quality cellphone cameras. When we had to wait for film to be developed to see what the photo looks like 😲

Well the memory of walking through the Roman forum, seeing Caesar’s palace and burial site, is quite an unforgettable experience (and much clearer than the actual photo 🫢). Literally stepping on pathways that were the bustle of Ancient Rome, in fact centuries old, was quite exhilarating (I am a big history buff). But apart from the history, it’s interesting to see the cultures and the impressive architecture and engineering feats which are now hundreds of years old. There is an expansion of the mind that happens when learning about other cultures.

Over the past two years I have had many clients visit Italy, and my first Italy trip with all its sights and sounds come back to me as if it were yesterday. That’s the most crucial thing about travelling… banking lifelong memories and making dreams come true.
