How much are booking commission fees costing you each year?

The average of 15% commission fee does not sound so bad.

R1000 a night, comm is R150. We thought we could live with that, until we did the annual calculation. Remember that some portals charge more than 15%.

Here is an example.
If your turnover is R50 000 per month x 12 months = R600 000 x 15% comm = R90 000.

Add on 15% vat (which changes comm from 15% to 17.25%) = R 13500 = R103 500

You are therefore spending over R103k on commissions a year!

We say that is a hidden expense, as generally the booking portal company, deducts their comm, before paying you the booking fee, so there is normally no direct payment or invoice for this expense.

Our concierge at Gypsy Life

Murphy is our secret weapon at our guesthouse. He is our very own concierge!

He runs out and greets every guest. He walks around the property and checks on our guests regularly.

He is often talkative and happy to give a paw when guests are in need.

He bids them farewell and feels dejected when there are no guests around.

Travel Moola is a new division of Gypsy life, which is a company that has grown and evolved since its inception in 2018.

6 years ago is when the concept of Gypsy Wagons was conceived and this is when we started on this interesting journey!

We started with the Gypsy Wagons,
The we renovated the Gypsy Guesthouse
Then Shane joined the party and we Launched Gypsy Massage.
Then we started on working on our retirement plan early, and we decided to share our van life dream, and Gypsy Vans was born.
Then in 2021 we decided to pull everything together under one umbrella and call it Gypsy Life.
Now we are very excited to be introducing the new division of our Gypsy Life company - our Travel Membership Club - called Travel Moola!
