Thanks Brent from goodthingsguy for your good news about the riches 'unearthed' at the Vaal Dam as nature peels away the canopy of water which usually keeps such gems hidden from view. Like the Voortrekker graves which marked the original river bed, especially around Groot Eiland - which can only be reached by boat - there are dozens of heritage sites marked by UNESCO, which usually lie beneath the Dam's surface. I'd like to share them with you DURING THIS, FESTIVE SEASON! Let's have visitors come down the Deneysville and mark them so that when the water level rises again there are perhaps buoys connected to the historical anchors beneath, the ideal launchpad for 'ghost sails' in the near future! # Deneysville: Sn**ch this article in the Vaal Ster today then you can plan you weekend festivities along the Vaal route! Head for Deneysville on Friday, sleep over at Vaal Delta or Lake Avenue Inn, have dinner there or at the Sisters Dam Pub - brekkie is also available at the venue and at Cafe Bluez as well as Riverview Pub & Grub (just over the Vaal Dam Wall).
Then it's Stonehaven on Vaal early Sat. Bring your boat if you have one, if you don't just climb aboard somebody else’s for the Flotilla, Spring Festival!
By midday you'll catch the action on the river either way at Baddrift Bridge!
Photograph the Flotilla on- or off-board - plenty FOMO! Just place your footage on the site vaalrivercommunity.co.za and stand to win R1 000s in prizes from participating hospitality teams along the way!
Then it's back to the Vaal Dam 35km upstream, at your leisure.

The DBTA has handed over the promotion of the Vaal Spring Festival, celebrating Water "Wall 2 Wall", to Venue Africa. Launching at Baddrift Bridge (VDBP) on September 7, the festival is gaining traction with prizes aplenty, pulling people, sailors, yachties and audiences from the Vaal Triangle (and further afield), to the 2 dams 100 years after the completion of the Vaal River Barrage and the start of the construction of it's, twin, Vaal Dam, upstream.
Join our water party Raft at Lochvaal on September 7th from 9am. (Sleep over on the 6/7/8 if you like, there is plenty of accom. available in Deneysville (1/2 an hour away by road) and along the river itself.
Bring your boat if you have one, if you don't climb aboard - there are dozens of boats available offering cruises and free rides.
Catch the flotilla - free fancy-dress – the best dressed boat and crew stand to win great prizes.
