"South Africa - Cape Town - 18 January 2025 - Standalone - Stargazers were in for a treat during the last few nights as the 2024 G3 Atlas Comet passed by our skies just after sunset. These comets are fairly infrequent and it's pretty rare to have one that is visible to us. Comets are named after the telescope or person that discovered them so that's why this is called Atlas (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System), and it was discovered in April 2024, so that's why 2024 is in its name."
