The Cape Weaver (Ploceus capensis) is a robust bird, measuring 17 cm in length, with olive-brown streaked upperparts and a sharply pointed conical bill. This species exhibits sexual dimorphism. #weaver #africa #birdsofafrica #travel

The captivating Blue Tailed Bee-eater (Merops bullockoides) boasts a striking blue tail, agile aerial acrobatics, and a diet of bees, wasps, and flying insects. While not globally threatened, localized habitat loss remains a challenge. The bateleur, also known as the bateleur eagle, is a medium-sized eagle found in South Africa. It has black feathers with chestnut coloring on its back, rump, and tail. You can recognize it by its red face and feet. This eagle is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and sometimes even seen in Arabia. It has an interesting way of flying and eats both carrion (dead animals) and live prey.

The Atlantic blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) is a remarkable species of marlin found in the Atlantic Ocean. It closely resembles the Indo-Pacific blue marlin but is sometimes considered a distinct species. These magnificent creatures can weigh up to 820 kg (1,985 lbs) and reach lengths of 5 meters (16 feet), with their striking blue coloration making them instantly recognizable. The Octopus cyanea, found off South Africa’s coast, is a master of camouflage. It adapts to coral reefs, changing color and texture instantly. The Australian spotted jellyfish, also known as the floating bell or white-spotted jellyfish, typically exhibits a blush pink coloration. Unlike some other jellyfish species, their pink appearance is more subdued. These gentle creatures primarily feed on zooplankton. Interestingly, they can be found in South Africa, extending their native habitat from eastern Australia to South East Asia. Follow for more! Bryde’s whales, part of the baleen whale family, fall into the medium-sized category. On a scale of 1 to 10, they’re around a 6 or 7. Males reach lengths of 12 to 13 meters (39 to 43 feet), while females are slightly larger. They weigh between 13,600 and 15,000 kilograms (30,000 to 33,000 pounds). While not as massive as blue whales, Bryde’s whales are still impressive ocean dwellers. You can hope to catch a glimpse of them off the South African coast.

Our Story

Africa Memories Travel is an owner-run Africa Specialist Tour Operator, that tailor-makes unique travel experiences combining destinations, lodges, activities and various modes of transport. Each guest booking is treated uniquely and personally, ensuring high quality tailor-made itineraries best suited to their needs and expectations.

I have been in the tour industry since 2008 and directly involved in volunteer conservation work in South Africa for just as long and before that was involved with working with key conservationists and travel partners in Swaziland. Before that, I was in the corporate world but my passion for travel in Africa pulled me into a direction that I will forever be grateful for and am privileged to share my love, knowledge and experience of Africa with the rest of the world through travel.

Over the years I have established and wide portfolio of destinations in Africa and have visited as many as I have been able to, equipping me with first-hand knowledge and experience to best tailor-make itineraries suited to my guests rather than only standardised packages making their experiences unique to them. I treat every travel itinerary personally, carefully selecting destinations best suited to the profile of my guests - this take focus, time, creativity and detail. When guests arrive in Africa they know that they are in safe, capable hands throughout their journey and leave with unforgettable memories and often life-changing experiences.
