As the festive season approaches and demand for travel both locally and internationally surges, so too are the fraudsters at work. A rise in holiday scams is prevalent over this period which means potential travellers are at greater risk of falling victim, so we strongly encourage you to take steps to protect yourself

Here are some of our important holiday safety tips :
- Use an accredited ASATA travel agent for a seamless experience, working with a professional who can offer you their expertise and support through your journey. Planning a holiday should be exciting not stressful.

-Beware of deals that are too good to be true. Any deals at hugely discounted prices should trigger alarm bells. Whether it’s dramatically discounted luxury accommodation, impossibly cheap flights or holiday packages advertised on social media, be careful these often turn out to be fraudulent. Do your research first and be wary of paying upfront amounts into personal bank accounts.

-Scammers operate under the guise of anonymity making it challenging to contact them. Reputable travel agents have a physical address, contact number and email address. Remember a website and/or social media pages are not always proof that a business is legitimate. Travel scammers create websites to look professional, it’s all part of the con!

The most common complaints from travelers who have been conned include fake holiday rentals, misleading travel packages and booking sites that aren’t what they seem.
