On the way home yesterday, their last day of a 22 day tour I planned for an overland group through Botswana and Zimbabwe, I received this message from one of my guests:
“We have so enjoyed this adventure John thanks to your excellent planning skills and knowledge. Look forward to catching up with you and sharing the highlights of this trip. On our way home now and willl let you know when we arrive safely.”

So rewarding.

For South Africans to see large-scale migrations, the immediate thought is to travel to the Serengeti or Masai Mara at great cost. This photo was sent to me 2 weeks ago by one of my guests, in Botswana, along the Boteti river, a lot closer to home, while on a tour I planned for their group. It’s always good to put faces to names. I met these two wonderful guys at Trade Bookings at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. They always bend over backwards to help with bookings. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Thanks Vikash and Mfundo for your help over the last few years, especially during the difficulties that COVID brought about. I met them today at Africa’s Travel Indaba being held at the ICC in Durban.

It gives me great pleasure to know that tour planning of mine is coming to fruition, and even more fun is being able to track their progress using Garmin technology. It’s a bit like having ‘an eye in the sky’. In fact, I have two tours in progress right now. This specific group is enjoying the magic of Mana Pools. The other group is on a Classic Botswana Tour, in Khumaga right now, enjoying the dazzling sights of thousands of Zebra on their migration.

Never a dull moment at Ihaha!

Almost every time you arrive at Ihaha along the banks of Botswana’s Chobe River, you’re likely to receive a pleasant surprise. On this occasion, it was a pride of about 11 lions just a short drive from our campsite.

The lioness with her dislodged canine (and it looks like her other lower-jaw canine has been lost) could not have been very comfortable for her.

We have our theories about what may have happened. We’d be interested to know your thoughts….?
