What a wild plumbing ride!
Our client called us out for a manhole that was overflowing and not knowing what it was, called Bushi Plumbers to step up to the plate and investigate further. Initially what we thought was a burst fire main suddenly turned into an adventure, that if we didn't record it, no one would have believed us.
This job was completed over a few days due to the enormity of what lay ahead, a job we will never forget.
Initially we called in Dean Lister to assist with a leak detection, but once we were given the all clear, the real work began, ruling out a sewerage blockage, we all turned our attention to the stormwater lines.
At the one side of the property, we located a large tunnel that ran underneath the industrial complex, unbeknownst to us, 155m in length, with no lights, smelly running water and some very dodgy looking items 😂
Armed with just a torch, we ventured into the unknown, wondering what we would find and what the cause of the blockage might be.
We eventually reached the other side of the tunnel and realised we couldn't go any further, and that we needed to walk around to the other side to have a better look
After a long hike through dense bush, rivers and rocks, we made it to the exit of the tunnel to which we thought we had found the blockage. Without any equipment, we made a plan with what nature could provide us and we started to see a positive result, but with a twist, the wall that housed the blockage started to decant and we soon realised that the end of the tunnel, that we initially walked inside of, was actually the beginning of a chamber system.
We came to the conclusion at the end of day 1, that we were running out of hours, also we needed more staff and better equipment in order to succeed.
On the remaining days that laid ahead, we entered the last chamber that we had ended with on day 1 and upon further investigation, we located a further 5 chambers that were all blocked, we spent the next few days clearing all 5 chambers, one at a time, watching the levels drop in each chamber was definitely a comforting sign, knowing we were getting somewhere
In the end we managed to clear and move 5 chambers of debris successfully and the manhole that was initially reported overflowing, stopped.
A mammoth task indeed, but one that we took up the challenge to complete.
No matter the job, the scale, the severity, the enormity, just remember our motto....
"Don't be a worrier, we will be your warriors"
