Ever heard of NABABEEP?
Just over 20 km north west of Springbok lies the small village of Nababeep, a former copper-mining town in the heart of the Namaqualand.
It is a little beep of a town, hardly substantial and still reeling from the after effects of the mine's closure in 2004 on the people who live here. Yet it is also one of the main attractions of the Namakwa wildflower tour, its rocky hills a rash of flowers during spring. This picture was taken this past weekend ......

TURBO 🐢
Turbo is a sub-adult green turtle that we released in December 2022. Over 101 days, he has travelled 2 265km! That's an average of 22.4km per day.

Shortly after his release, Turbo headed inshore and spent some time in the West Coast National Park. Then, Turbo headed significantly further offshore (340km!) before coming inland at Hondeklipbaai. Turbo has spent the last three weeks slowly moving south, hugging the coastline.
Lately, he's been in the shallower waters of Dwarskersbos, where the water is up to 5º warmer (currently, it's about 19º). This spot is also protected from the Southeasterly wind, making it a good hang-out spot!
