In KwaZulu-Natal, 24 September was known as Shaka Day, in commemoration of the Zulu King, Shaka, on the presumed date of his death in 1828. Shaka was the Zulu King who played an important role in uniting disparate Zulu clans into a cohesive nation.

On this day at Dukuza (Formerly Stanger) the Zulu King, traditional chiefs, nduna’s and laymen gather at Dukuza to be addressed by the Zulu King. Groups of Zulu people from all over KZN come in traditional attire singing and dancing to be addressed by his Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini. This is a most colourful and happy occasion. It lasts most of the day.
This is great fun and full of happy people dressed in so many different styles and colours.
