Preparations are well underway for our Cherry festival event from 14th to 16th November 2024 and we are expecting a good turnout. The roads leading to Sandstone have now been repaired although the section from Fouriesburg to Sandstone is still quite bumpy but safe. The road from Senekal via Rosendal to Ficksburg is under full reconstruction and should be avoided as no completion date has been gazetted yet. We promise our guests a full programme so start planning your visit now. There is a lot of accommodation in the surrounding areas and as of now we have plenty of space in our campsite.

We love it here on Schoonzicht Farm - it is a place where we find peace.
In 2016, we decided to share this with other, like minded people and we started building the Cottages. Well, actually we renovated 3, old Worker’s houses. Sharon wanted to name each Cottage with old names for homes. These first three were named: Shebang, Nook and Wig-wam. It was a tad slow in getting completed but since we did it all ourselves, that was a fair excuse ;-)
The Cottages sit on the Southern side of our valley and commands a spectacular view over the valley. Ideal for Sundowners or contemplating life, over that first cup of coffee in the morning.
We really are all about kicking back and slowing down a bit. We decided not to install televisions and so far 95% of guests agree. There is adequate cellular signal for emergency emails and so forth.
We find that most 2-night guests oversleep the second morning, when the reboot finally kicks in. That is OK, we don’t mind the late check-outs ;-) Guests on longer stays, usually sleep a lot the first few days - the tranquility here is solid. It settles on your soul like a blanket. Quiet includes soft calls from the Guinea fowl, Nightjars, Jackal and various other nocturnal animals. We don’t hunt here, so the animals are all tame and accepts a person as part of the scene.
Our main business is Ember Down and we operate that from the old tractor shed. Animals feature big in our lives and our sheep flock adds to the tranquility. The sheep are so tame, herding them to their overnight sleeping pens, are often rather difficult as they ignore you, with us ending in the middle of the flock and them looking at us oddly. Anyway, you’ll find everything here is tame and easygoing - an attitude we like to encourage with our guest. We really want people to find a bit of peace and tranquility here. It makes life better.
Late in 2017, we renovated an OLD ruin, part of what we think may be the original homestead. We do love this quaint little 2-sleeper. We called her Cranny.
We now have 4 Cottages, sleeping 14 people. We think you will LOVE it here ;-)
