Living in such a wonderful part of the world, one cannot help but brag about it and want to share it with everyone! That’s what Franschhoek Adventures is all about... showing off our gorgeous town and the majestic mountains that surround it.
While we are world-renowned for our eatries and wine farms, there is so much more to do in and around the valley. Let me tempt you with just a few fabulous activities to choose from:
HIKING: Fantastic hikes in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve which has 7 trails to choose from, many having spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range and the Franschhoek Valley. We also have trails at the Berg River Conservation Area as well as at the La Motte Wine Estate.
MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDES: Our very popular wine tours on mountain bikes take you to 3 or more vineyards for tastings and food pairings. We are surrounded by world-class vineyards offering a huge selection of award-winning wines and this is an excellent way to get your daily dose of exercise while enjoying the wines and the views the farms offer. Lunch is available at a number of farms if so desired. A Bespoke tour can also be arranged. We also offer a Village Ride which is a 15km circular route around Franshhoek if wine farms are not your thing. Good exercise, between beautiful farms with amazing mountain views.
HISTORY: Our Famous History Village Walk is an excellent way to get to know the town and its history. We walk around the side streets and view the old buildings, school, farms and churches and hear the stories of the people who lived there. You’ll learn about the first inhabitants of the area, the wildlife they shared the valley with as well as why we do not speak French in our very French town. The walking tour takes 2 hours but this tour is now also available as a 1.5 hour TUK TUK tour!
TOWNSHIP TOUR: Our local township Groendal, which incorporates the RDP area of Mooiwater and the informal settlement of Langrug, is a fascinating place to visit. Also steeped in history, you will see a side of South Africa which you may have missed so far. Our country is extremely divers and multi-faceted which gives us our uniqueness. Come and explore with us. Visit a restaurant, a shabeen, a creche, a local spaza shop and taste the local beer and food. If you’re lucky you may even get to hear the local music scene.
