Yesterday our volunteers participated in a walk to the old Franskraal museum to raise funds for the local old age home! 😎 what a lovely walk, and amazing to see all the support from the Gansbaai locals! 🥳🤩

Looking at the result of the Cape fur seal breeding season on Geyser Rock! 👶🏼🍼 These seal pups were born between late November and early December, and will be nursed for about 6 months until they build up enough fat to survive in the cold water. 🌊

What a drag it must be to have SO many teeth!

Did you know that great white sharks can have up to 300 teeth at a time? 😱 You can't see them all, but they have multiple rows behind their visible teeth that are lining up to replace old or loose ones. This makes sure that their teeth are always sharp and ready for action! 🤩🦈

Did you know that tiger sharks have a direct impact on the health of seagrass beds?🌱

We all know that sea turtles are one of a tiger shark's favourite snacks... By predating on them, the sharks create what is known as a "landscape of fear" for the turtles. 🐢❌

Scientists in Hawaii have found that when tiger sharks are present in an area, sea turtles graze on seagrass over a broader area. When tiger sharks disappear from an area, the turtles will only focus on certain areas where the seagrass is of the best quality and those habitats are soon destroyed by overgrazing. 🌊🦈

So the sharks keep the ecosystem healthy by influencing the presence of the turtles in an area - all the more reason to keep them around! 🦈🤩

to one of our special visitors last year 😍 We are hoping to see more of these lovely faces this year 🦈 Unfortunately, this lady had some fishing line trailing from her mouth. This sheds some light on the continuous problem that these sharks have with fishing practices. We hope that many more of her friends also evaded the danger! 🦈🌊
