"Do rhinos make any noise other than snorting?"
A top-tier question from one of our followers — and the perfect excuse to consult our Ask A Safari Guide WhatsApp group. (Not just any safari guides, mind you. We're talking Simon, Nicky and Rufus — the legendary Wild Wings crew. 💚🐾)
Simon, ever the pro, gave us a full breakdown of rhino sounds. Rufus? He gave us a performance. 🎙️🦏

So… what sounds do rhinos make? Simon breaks it down:
Snorts & grunts – Rhino small talk. A little annoyed? A little curious? That's a snort.
Bellowing – When things get serious. Think: "Back off, bud."
Mooing – Yes, really. Rhino moms calling to their babies.
Whistling – High-pitched and anxious, often when they're uneasy.
Trumpeting – When dominance must be declared with flair.
Growling – The rhino version of "don't test me."
Squeals & screams – Mostly from calves, but also from adults in distress. (Not as cute as it sounds.)

On safari in the Kruger National Park, we were fortunate to have Nicky guide us for 5 amazing days. We saw all the wildlife we hoped for and more. We saw the Big 5 and also many tiny birds and animals all in their natural environment.
