Our Story
The village of Goedverwacht is wellknown for its rich Moravian culture and friendly people. The tranquility and openness is complemented by the enthusiastic lifestyle that the villagers portrait to produce breathtaking activities and products.
It is indeed a working community who believe in selfsustainability. The future of the community is our children in which we invest through education.Selfsustainability is contagious in the village. The principles of the elderlies has a tremendous impact on the lives of the youngers. They are the forecasters of the faith of the community. It is in many ways that they become the thermometer of the community. It is through their eyes that we can experience reality.
At the moment they’r silent but underneath all the thermoil that our community is going through we still believe we can pull ourselves together and rise up with dignity and pride.Looking behind and developing according to what we experience daily brought us insight in our future. Therefore we have economic activities in agriculture which is the backbone of Goedverwacht’s lifelyhood. We still harvest the sweet potatoes from the furtile soil like our fathers did a couple of hundred years ago.We were so innovative that we developed a wellknown festival called it Snoek and Patat festival.Don’t miss out on the picking of sweet Nartjies, Guavas and Oranges- cultivated special for wintertime .While drops pour softly on the roof of homes and fires burn in ovens with the smell of fresch baked bread in our nostrills- peace at home.
Along the open fire side which we love so dearly stories telling took place during the could winternights. That is how the elderly people gained respect because the younger generation discover the character of their parents through the stories they heard. Some of us left the Village but tend to come back because we missed the life on a Mission Station.
