An Elephant Seal is visiting Gordons Bay residential area, to the surprise of the locals, this morning.

Elephant seals are excellent divers and have been
known to dive deep into the ocean to escape
predators or sleep. However, it's unlikely that the seal n question was trying to escape predators or sleep in a residential area.

Climate change has been affecting elephant seal
habitats, causing them to adapt to new environments. It's possible that the seal got lost or disoriented due to changes in its usual habitat or migration patterns.

Another possibility is that the seal was simply
exploring its surroundings, as elephant seals are
known to be curious creatures.

Without more information, it's difficult to say for certain what caused the seal's escape.

But please give it space to return. Animal sea rescue is on the scene.
