Hello! My name is Tamaryn Kvalsvig, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the new face of tourism in our beautiful seaside village, Gordon’s Bay—a place I’ve proudly called home for all 24 years of my life.
Having grown up surrounded by the charm of our beaches, mountains, and friendly faces, I’ve always felt that Gordon’s Bay is a hidden gem waiting to shine brighter. I feel that destination marketing and getting more people involved in tourism will put our little secret on the map. Showing everyone what a paradise Gordons Bay is.
I’m deeply passionate about people and our incredible community. Whether I’m sharing fascinating tidbits about Gordon’s Bay’s history, chatting about my favorite local spots, or helping visitors (both local and international) feel at home, you’ll often find me happily engaging with anyone who walks through the tourism office doors.
In my role at Gordon’s Bay Tourism, I manage and market our social media platforms, showcasing everything that makes our town so special. I also work closely with local businesses, spreading the word about our fantastic membership program—a way for businesses to shine while supporting tourism.
I’m excited to work together to celebrate and grow Gordon’s Bay. So, let’s chat, collaborate, and share our love for this little slice of paradise we’re lucky enough to call home.

Have You Discovered the Secrets of Wagon Pass?
High above Sir Lowry’s Pass lies a trail steeped in history and adventure: the Wagon Pass. Picture this — in the early 19th century, ox wagons laden with goods creaked their way up this treacherous path. It wasn’t for the faint of heart. The steep and rocky terrain claimed many oxen and wagons, turning every journey into a battle against nature.
The challenges were immense. Nearly a fifth of the wagons were damaged as they struggled to traverse the pass. Some lost their grip entirely, sliding back down the mountain and forcing their determined travelers to start the grueling climb all over again. Imagine their frustration — and their perseverance!
But ingenuity always finds a way. Travelers devised clever methods to tackle the ascent. One popular strategy was to dismantle the wagons at the base, carry the pieces to the summit, and reassemble them at the top — all while coaxing oxen up the rocky, windswept path. Alternatively, extra muscle came in the form of additional oxen from nearby farms, with some wagons requiring up to 24 oxen to pull their way to victory.
Today, the marks of those historic journeys remain etched into the rock, left by the brake drag-shoes of the wagons. These grooves are more than just scratches; they’re enduring symbols of resilience and resourcefulness. Over 250 years later, they invite us to imagine the sheer determination it took to conquer the pass.
Curious to see this slice of history for yourself? You’re in luck! The Wagon Pass is marked on Google Maps and easy to locate. It is recommended that you go though a hiking group or tour as you will need to the permission of local land owners to access the paths. The scenic hike is rough 40 minutes and is not extremely challenging.
So lace up your hiking boots, grab some water, and step back in time as you walk in the tracks of those intrepid pioneers. Who knows what stories the wind might whisper as you stand where history was made?
Comment bellow if you have seen this tracks or tag friends you would like to do this with!

Gordon’s Bay is a sunny north-facing village enjoying the warmer waters of False Bay, nestled on the sea shore at the base of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Gordon’s Bay has an authentic, relaxing South African atmosphere and so close to Cape Town yet away from the hustle and bustle of traffic and the Cape Town city. This ‘Gorgeous’ Gordon’s Bay is ideal for a family holiday, a romantic celebration, a solo getaway or central base for your business trip or golfing holiday.
Gordon’s Bay, Heart of the Cape!
Gordon’s Bay is centrally located close to Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Hermanus. Gordon’s Bay, also referred to as Heart of the Cape because there are at least 40 things to do within 40km! Exploring the Cape and you don’t like packing and unpacking every day to see another destination? Stay in one of the many Guesthouses, B&B’s, Boutique Hotels, Self Catering Suites or Apartments and explore all the famous places like Hermanus, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Muizenberg and Kalk Bay, from one place, all in a one hour drive. We have four routes starting from or finishing from Gordon’s Bay. The famous Whale route to Hermanus over Clarence Drive with spectacular views, 4 Passes route through the Wine and Fruit lands that surrounds us, The Wine route from Sir Lowry’s Pass, Somerset to Stellenbosch and Franschoek and of course the Bay route taking you along False Bay to quaint places like Muizenberg, Kalk-Bay up to Simon's Town and Cape Point!
Gordon’s Bay is also Heart of Cape Golf!
You play Golf and planned a stay in Gordon’s Bay? Gordon's Bay, with two 18 hole Championship Courses within a fifteen minute drive (no pun intended!), four more within 30 minutes, and a further seventeen more within one hour, can confidently lay claim to being the perfect base from which to explore and experience, the wide variety of terrain and settings, "off-course" experiences, friendly atmosphere and value for money that golf in the Western Cape provides.
Enjoy our spectacular sunsets!
Gordon’s Bay is famous for the spectacular sunsets! Watch as the sun slips behind the indigo-coloured Table Mountain Range across the Bay and the sky lights up. Tones of peach, apricot, gold maroon and violet swirl in amazing cloud patterns and shine on the Helderberg Mountains, which reflect pink hues onto the patchwork of vineyards in the Helderberg wine region.
White sandy beaches
Gordon’s Bay offers sunny, white sandy beaches lined with quaint seaside restaurants or shady milkwood trees. The gentle shallow water warmed by the sun is a delight for you to suntan and swim or for youngsters to safely play in rock pools. Bikini Beach, awarded Blue flag status for cleanliness and safety, is next to the picturesque Gordon’s Bay Harbour.
False Bay has warmer water compared with Atlantic Beaches in Cape Town!
Sea temperature in summer often reaches 22 °C (72 °F) in False Bay due to the South Easter wind blowing the warm Agulhas into False Bay. Whereas on the Atlantic beaches (in the City of Cape Town) the same wind pulls the warm surface water away from the coast, and this is replaced by very cold water from great depths, usually 6 - 14 °C (45 - 57 °F).
Our unique two harbours
Unique in South-Africa, Gordon’s Bay boasts two harbours. Our picturesque Gordon’s Bay Harbour and the Blue Flag-rated Harbour Island Marina where large cruisers and other sea craft are safely moored offering a delightful setting for seaside dining and sipping the excellent local wines.
It is not about things to do around Gordon’s Bay but how much time you have?
