A subcutaneous injection on a big Livingstone Eland. Jazz gave him some anti-parasite medication called Doramectin.
Doramectin is used for the treatment and control of internal parasitosis (gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes), ticks, and mange (and other ectoparasites).

A young buffalo bull was walked and loaded into the trailer. To avoid inbreeding, this young bull needs to be moved.

It is amazing to work with these big, strong animals.

Hooves of sable can grow long and need to be trimmed so that the animal can walk normally and avoid experiencing joint pain. The hooves of this animal had to be trimmed to their proper length.

Angelic draws blood from a hyena to determine parenting and also the sex of the animals. It's sometimes really hard to determine whether the animal is male or female, so the best is to send it to the labs to verify the sex of these animals.

Female hyenas produce three times more testosterone in their bodies than their male counterparts. As a result, the females are more muscular, larger and more aggressive than the males.

Our student had this amazing experience, relocating a hippo bull.
The word "hippopotamus" comes from the Greek word for "water horse" or "river horse," although hippos and horses aren't closely related.

This lion male wasn't very happy to be darted.
He was safely relocated to a reserve.

African lions are very large animals, with males weighing up to 225kg and females up to 150kg. In the wild, the lion's average lifespan is approximately 15 years.

Fanny is collecting a skin sample from a buffalo for DNA purposes.

We always keep skin or hair samples as a backup if there is any delay in getting blood samples to the lab. Dams and sires can be determined to avoid inbreeding and further the genetic pool for a stronger and better gene pool.
