Wild Coast Horses had a memorable start to 2025, with a string of eight horses setting out on our 5-day mini trail to Wavecrest. ⋆｡ﾟ🌊｡

Making a long-awaited comeback, our homebred Arab, Tuwaisan, proved he’s lost none of his speed, enthusiasm, or sure-footedness, giving return guest Susan Fergusson an exhilarating ride reminiscent of the one she enjoyed with us 17 years ago! 🏇

After taking a break for the festive season, the horses were more than ready for a change of pace and launched themselves into the first trail of the year with spirited enthusiasm. 🌟

Guides and guests were equally excited to be back on the cattle paths and empty beaches that are the hallmark of our Wild Coast adventures. Setting out with energy and anticipation, horses and riders navigated rocky inclines, river crossings, and, of course, the endless beach canters the Wild Coast is famous for. ˖°𓇼🌊⋆🐚🫧

Joining us were South Africans from Cape Town and Johannesburg, who brought along a love of fine wine and adventure riding, and guests from the United States and Europe who shared their experiences of horse-riding holidays around the world. 🌍

One guest summed it up perfectly, “Absolutely magical! The horses are perfect and well-suited to the rider, the guides, calm and professional, and the ride and scenery unparalleled! Cannot recommend it enough."

After such an incredible start to 2025, we eagerly anticipate a year of exploration and the thrill of sharing our beloved Wild Coast with adventurous riders from across the globe.

As the year draws to a close, we celebrate the horses who've brought so much freedom and fulfillment to those who've joined us on the Wild Coast in 2024.

🎬📽️🎞️Lights, cameras, action! The last trail of 2024 wasn't all about sea, sun, and horses 🌊🌅🏇.

There were so many smartphones, cameras, and GoPros that virtually every second of the adventure was recorded. From beach canters to gin and tonics, it was a digital memory-making marathon where every moment was immortalised in pixels and video frames.

As one guest said, it was like being part of an equestrian version of Keeping Up With the Kardashians but without the drama, the high-maintenance attitudes, or the constant family feuds.

Instead, our guests produced an authentic reflection of the holiday of a lifetime, complete with exciting rides, relaxing swims, and unfiltered laughter. The result? Spontaneous, unscripted memories that will be treasured long after the sunburn fades!

WILD COAST HORSE TRAILS IS OFFERING A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY FOR SOUTH AFRICAN RIDERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN A DYNAMIC EQUESTRAIN CAREER.

We offer South African riders an opportunity to do a trail guide internship with us on the Wild Coast. (We are based in Kei Mouth about an hour north of East London)
It is an excellent opportunity for intermediate and advanced riders to broaden their experience, and venture into a dynamic and specialized equestrian career.
At the end of the internship, job prospects are very good as there is a high demand throughout Southern Africa for experienced riders in the international professional horse safari and trail industry.

Here is the offer.
1 month probation, at the end of which we may offer you a 6 or 12 month internship contract.
You get accommodation & a basic stipend.
You work with our team and get hands-on experience and training in professional trail guiding as well as holistic horse care and management.

November's been a busy month for the Wild Coast Horses with two trails and a host of new arrivals embarking on our Working Riding Holiday program 🏇.

First up, we saw Lies returning for her second visit - the first proving so addictive that she couldn't wait to return. Lies will be showing new recruits, like Jorina from Germany, the ropes during our busy Christmas season 🎄.

Jorina joined us at the end of October and quickly slotted into the routine, helping prepare the horses for trails and joining clients on our mini trail last week 🐎.

Riding alongside her was Jessica from the UK. A keen eventer, Jess is a welcome addition to the team, and we're looking forward to having her with us in the run-up to Christmas 🦌.

Even though she's only been here a few days, Jess is an old hand compared to Jemima who arrived from the UK on Saturday. Jemima will be gone long before the holidaymakers arrive, but we're confident her two-week stay will be filled with horses, sea, sunshine, and laughter 🌊☀️😂!

With such a diverse and enthusiastic group of riders joining our Wild Coast family, we're set for an unforgettable summer filled with adventure and camaraderie 🤠.

Heritage Day only lasts 24 hours, but at Wild Coast Horses, we’ve spent the whole month celebrating our fellow South Africans and sharing the beauty of our natural world with them. 🇿🇦 ⛰️

First, we had two South African clients join us for a 7 night Wild Coast Horse Trail, then Berta travelled up from Ceres to spend a few days experiencing our flexible Kei River Stay and Ride package, which saw her discovering hidden waterfalls and the sure-footed charm of some of our home-bred Arabs. 🐎

Next up on the Stay and Ride were the courageous Mila and her godmother Christie. Mila quickly bonded with Storm, one of our younger Anglo Arabs, while Christie enjoyed a more laid back pace on the ever-dependable Poppet. 🏇🏽

🌄 🌊 Together, riders and horses explored much of the Wild Coast and, despite the threat of rain, managed to remain dry. Meanwhile, for Christie, it proved to be “total food for the soul,” complete with indescribable scenery and “amazing horses.”

While we love sharing the Wild Coast with overseas guests, there’s something special about introducing our fellow South Africans to the region, especially around Heritage Day, when we remember the diversity of our Rainbow Nation and honor the millions of individuals who call it home. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

🚙 As our guests drove up from Knysna, summer arrived on the Wild Coast, bringing with it strong winds and seasonal downpours. ⛈

Undeterred, our fearless horsewomen rode on, wading through rivers, clambering over rocks, and cantering across windswept beaches with exhilarating abandon. 🏇🏽

While our guests were blown away by the beauty and variety of the trail, the horses remained calm and composed, especially Lizzie, who was so relaxed she seems to be yawning in almost every photo! But that's Lizzie for you—she takes everything in stride, whether it's crossing rivers or navigating rocky paths. ⛰️

Meanwhile, the Wild Coast did everything it could to impress, with whales and dolphins putting on a spectacle show both along the trail and at our northernmost destination - Kob Inn 🐬🐳

When our guests departed a week later, they left with windblown hair, wide smiles, happy memories, and plenty of stories to share.
