Our professional, experienced and qualified crew are ready to welcome you aboard a trip to remember, whether it's for that special family event or you just feel like some fishing 'with the guys... and girls'! Children, accompanied by adults, are encouraged to take part as well, especially in our fishing trips. All equipment for fishing and diving is available on request.
Most of our trips launch from the Hermanus New Harbour, excluding the Great White Shark and Bronze Whaler Cage Diving trips which launch from Kleinbaai, a 50km drive from Hermanus. (Wicked Tuna South Africa can arrange shuttle transportation within the Western Cape with a professional driver, for a fee).
Hermanus, where Wicked Tuna South Africa is based, is a wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts, especially those with water-sport inclinations. The cool Atlantic Ocean's nutrient-rich waters are teeming with a splendid variety of marine and bird life.
Experienced scuba divers, snorkellers and free divers are welcome to join one of our reef dives (Blow-Hole Dive or Hakskeen Dive), in the company of a qualified dive master. On these trips, divers will be awed by the splendid richness of our reefs and the majestic kelp forests, home to longsnout pipefish, a variety of psychedelic nudibranchs, brilliant anemones, sea fans and soft corals.
A Blue and Mako Shark Dive, a full-day, deep-sea adventure with Wicked Tuna South Africa, is an opportunity to dive freely with blues and shortfin makos. Makos are reputed to be the fastest sharks in the world, reaching speeds of more than 50km/h, and extremely intelligent with the biggest brain-per-body-mass of any shark. Makos have to be fast to catch their speedy prey of choice: yellowfin tuna.
On our Deep-Sea Tuna Fishing charters, this is also what we are after! A tuna trip is 14 hours of action, adrenaline and excitement, as you take on the yellowfin tuna: one of the strongest and toughest game fish. If you're wondering what to gift that passionate fisherman or -woman in your life, this might just be it!
On a full-day Deep-Sea Game Fishing charter with us you may hook a tasty Cape salmon, red stumpnose, snoek, carpenter (silverfish) or yellowtail.
Bait, reels, rods and tackle are provided for Wicked Tuna fishing charters, although keen fishermen and -women are welcome to bring their own equipment.
Although we are an adventurous crew, we do like to do things by the book at Wicked Tuna South Africa, so please note that before a fishing trip it is essential for clients - South African nationals and those from other countries - to purchase, for a nominal fee, a recreational fishing licence. For less than R100, this can be obtained from the South African post office (R7 application fee plus R87 annual recreational angling permit, or R45 for a four-week permit).
Our Pelagic Bird-Watching Charter is a hit with twitchers, who get a chance to get up-close-and-personal with a range of deep-sea birds. This full-day tour heads to the trawler fishing grounds 45 nautical miles south-west of the port of Hermanus. Here ocean-going birds like albatrosses, gannets, petrels, shearwaters and skuas flock to enjoy the fishing net fall-out of the commercial boats.
If you're keen on a more relaxing activity, then you'll be swept away by our Walker Bay cruises, where you can take in dramatic marinescapes against the backdrop of the Kleinriviersberg range. For a range of interests, we offer eco, bay and sunset cruises as well as boat parties, which include a DJ and photographer.
Our skipper and crew adhere to COVID-19 government regulations, as well as the safety regulations set out by South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF).
