Uber Uvongo Beach, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa update: from the Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate team:
The paving has been replaced at areas that needed it most, roughly 80% of the paved area.
A new 5000lt RotoTank has been installed and piped into the ablution facilities.
The overgrown bush has been drastically cut back, revealing a beautiful rock face which we have taken great care to try and keep as natural as possible, we are also rehabilitating the huge ledge overlooking the whole beach, and look forward to seeing families enjoy the view from there once the grass has covered the entire area.
The lifeguard tower received a fresh coat of paint and now looks amazing! The fence around the family pool was also refurbished.
Graffiti was removed off the cliffs and many walls.
Tap fittings that were stolen have been replaced with plastic versions where possible. The electricity cables in the ablution facilities were replaced due to theft. The ablution facilities now all have alarm systems installed.
Numerous gardens against the rock face have been created to attempt to stop the soils from washing away.
The Uvongo bridge is undergoing a transformation, it has been pressure cleaned and is receiving a new coat of paint.
We will be spraying for ants around the beach areas shortly.
Signage is in the process of being printed. Stompie collectors have been installed at strategic locations to minimise pollution from cigarette butts.
Uvongo will shortly have its own 3-4 man Clean Team volunteers to assist with day to day maintenance at Uvongo South and North!
This coming Sunday we will be putting in a big effort again in attempting to remove more of the debris that was left after the storms.
