"On July 6th, 2023 I picked up Jenny from the Oribi airport in Pietermaritzburg. It was an easy evening drive to Himeville to the Sani Pass Manor Guest House

Upon arrival, which was at 10pm๐Ÿซฃ Sbu was waiting patiently for us, Jenny checked in and I went home for the night. We both needed a good sleep ๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ˜ด. Shame, so did Sbu๐Ÿค

The next morning, 07 July, ๐ŸŒ„ the weather was perfect despite the bleak weather forecast. An early start of 8am and off we set off to the Mountain Kingdom via the Sani Pass. The morning winter chill did not deter us from enjoying the gorgeous Drakensberg Mountains.

Two hours later, Jenny was enjoying a hot chocolate at the The Highest Pub In Africa - Sani Pass whilst I had my caffeine fix for the day โ˜•๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We then set off to mme maTsitso's home which is a further 7km's into Lesotho. We were greeted by Tshili, her daughter who was frantically trying to make a fire so that she could bake bread, which is sold to shepherds and also enjoyed by the tourists who visit the village. That includes Jenny and myself

From there we ventured even further into Lesotho ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ธ to a village where the local ladies welcomed us in song ๐ŸŽต ๐Ÿ˜€. Wow!! What a way to welcome guests.

Before leaving the village it is customary for the local Traditional Healer to give us her blessings.

After a further 2 hour drive we pulled in at New Oxbow Lodge for lunch, before we tackled the Moteng Pass which would bring us into the Lowlands of Lesotho.

Life is very different in the Lowlands in comparison to the Highlands. There is that hustle and bustle. We arrived at our lodge for the evening and enjoy beautifully prepared Highlands Trout with vegetables ๐Ÿคชmmm it was divine! ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿซ›

As they say in Lesotho, all roads lead to Semonkong (place of smoke). Another good start to the new day.

First, a stop at Ha Kome Caves. This is where ntate Kome who came from Matatiele, with his wives and children, settled. It is said he chose to settle there because it was a perfect hiding place from the cannibals.

Cannibalism is something that did exist in Lesotho and this was due to gr
