No visit to the Panorama Route is complete without soaking in the breathtaking views of the Blyde River Canyon — widely regarded as the largest green canyon in the world.
While the route is filled with unforgettable stops, one viewpoint always captures our hearts: The Three Rondavels.
These towering rock formations resemble traditional African round huts — called "rondawels" in Afrikaans — and are named after the three wives of Chief Maripe Mashile: Maseroto, Mogoladikwe, and Magabolle.
Just behind them lies Mariepskop, the site of a legendary battle where Chief Mashile and his people defended their stronghold against invading Swazi forces in the mid-1800s — using fog and boulders to win what’s now remembered as the Battle of Moholoholo.
