Mark is a very close friend of the Maninghi Lodge Maninghi Lodge and PAW Safaris Team, and he has helped us massively achieve our guiding goals.
He is now out of the hospital but will still need to undergo a lot of therapy before he can get back on his feet and into the bush - the place he calls home.

Hi, I’m Paul Slyer; I run PAW Safaris, and it’s my pleasure and delight to attend to the specialized needs of the individual guests whom we guide on luxury safaris in the wild African bush.
My love-affair with the natural world began when I was a very little boy, when my parents first took me to the world-renowned Kruger National Park; I’ve been absolutely captivated ever since. For the last 37 years, my travels have taken me to the parks and reserves of my own magnificent country, and beyond through much of Eastern and Southern Africa, Australia and Asia, endlessly absorbed by the astonishing diversity and intricacy of our planet’s exquisite fauna and flora.
In 2014, my passion became my professional career when I established PAW Safaris. With Field Guide Association of South Africa (FGASA), i am an accredited Level 3 Nature Guide, Professional Trails Guide and i've recently qualified as a Mentor for Trails Guide through FGASA, enabling me to pass on my own knowledge and skills to the rising generation of guides.
Through PAW Safaris, we specialize in tailor-made adventures, photographic and wildlife safaris, in the unparalleled wild places of Southern and East Africa. We revel in the endlessly changing vistas, magnificent sunrises and unmatched sunsets of the bush, inhabited by myriads of fascinating animals, birds, insects, flowers and trees. We wake in the fresh quiet of the African morning to the dawn chorus, and sleep peacefully to an orchestra of singing crickets, punctuated by the roaring of lions or the eerie calls of hyena and jackal in the night.
I have a deep and abiding love for the natural world, and it is a great delight to inspire my guests with my own unfolding knowledge and experience, walking alongside them to places of peerless wonder and beauty. Our guests had a fantastic day exploring Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of Mountain Gorilla’s. It was a tough hike but well worth it finding these exclusive primates. With beautiful scenery as well as other treasures to discover.
Trekking the mountain gorilla’s in Uganda, Rwanda and the Congo is a must for everyone’s bucket list as well as support towards these magnificent endangered great apes.

Lake Mburo awaits us tomorrow below, as we embark on an 18 day safari through the “Pearl of africa” Uganda.
Situated against the Botswana border, close to the Kalahari Desert, is Madikwe Game Reserve.
Although a lesser known reserve, its grassland, forest and rocky Tshwene Tshwene hills make it a haven for a variety of wildlife, such as elephants, lions, leopards and rhinos, plus the endangered wild dog. The park also has a wide variety of bird species, and is any travelers dream destination.

Kibale National Park in Uganda is one of the best safari destinations in Africa!
Kibale has a variety of habitats, ranging from moist evergreen forests, to dry tropical forest, and then to the woodland & savanna along the rift valley floor.
The density and diversity of primates in Kibale National Park is of the highest in the whole of Africa! The most well-known of its 13 species are the chimpanzees. Additionally, Kibale is home to the uncommon I’Hoest’s monkey as well as East Africa’s biggest population of the endangered Red Colobus monkey.
The park boasts a whopping 325 different bird species, as well as other mammals are also present, including buffalo, leopard, bush pig, and elephants.

What a fantastic morning here in the Kalahari Desert. We spotted this 1.5m Cape Cobra while going for a walk. While explaining to my guests about cobras, our tracker spotted another cobra about 50m away and infront of this snake. We watched them for about 30 minutes while piecing the story together. It turned out this cobra (most likely a male) was following the other similar sized cobra (most likely a female)The cobra in front finally went into a hole and this snake made his way into the hole after her. I wonder what they where doing in there afterwards. 😉

One of the Jewels of Tanzania, and world renowned, is the Ngorongoro Crater. A massive caldera 610m high with a surface area of 260km within the crater. The original height of the volcano was said to be around 5000m in height and exploded around 3 to 4 million years ago. The Flora and Fauna within the crater is completely sustainable, housing around 25000 large mammals including the Big 5. The Fever tree forest. Absolute magic, hidden away from the general public in the Northern Kruger
Chimp trekking is something that should be on everyone's bucket list. Seeing our closest relative's in the wild is an unforgettable experience!! This footage was taken yesterday in Kibale Forest, Uganda. Who would have thought that wild habituated chimps would be comfortable so close to humans?
Following our trip, we have had the privilege of spending a few nights in the Southern section (Northern Cape) of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. With its red sand dunes, this semi-arid desert is home to herds of endemic antelope (Gemsbok, Springbok, Blue Wildebeest) as well as 58 other mammal species, reptiles and just over 300 bird species!! The views are just spectacular! Definitely one for the books :)
Taking a boat or Mokoro (local canoe) trip up into the Okavango Delta is one of the best ways to experience this magical place. Being right at eye level with the water ways seeing and feeling the life blood of the largest inland delta underneath you as you drift along. With plenty of birds and mammals to keep you occupied. While you sit back and relax and absorb it all. (This was a time lapse video you don't actually move that fast 😉)
Our guests were treated to an awesome display of nature this morning, while we were staying at Kings Camp Lodge in the Timbavati. The Sharalumi River came down in flood due to a high amount of rain in the Hoedspruit area last night. It's not every day you see a river start flowing again bringing life back to the African bush!
